DA confirms that the DNA test results were given to Kane's attorney. So Kane's attorney had a basis for claiming he knew what the results were.

"Sedita confirmed that initial results from DNA tests were delivered to counsel for both sides.

Citing a historical precedent, "Brady vs. Maryland," Sedita said he had an obligation to notify both Kane's attorney and the accuser's attorney of results of the DNA tests from the evidence in the rape kit. Sedita said the "ethical obligation" exists if the results of the test "may exonerate" or be favorable for the accused, or in this case, Kane.

Sedita would not answer further questions about the results of the testing, citing New York State law. He also chided the sources of leaks to the media about details relating to the evidence."

Well, that certainly doesn't look great for the accuser nor does mom making up some cuckoo story about an evidence bag. If something did happen to the accuser and the mom did that, shame on her. Shame on her anyway.

I'm curious what people around here think about women who wrongly accuse men of rape and what consequences there should be? I'm not suggesting that is the case here but it does happen and I'm not sure anything ever happens from it. I'm guessing at the very least that is because it can be hard to prove.

There was a story in the news a few years ago about a good high school football player who was accused of and later convicted of rape. This guy was going to be recruited to a top NCAA school and probably and NHL draftee. Well, he serves five years in jail but inevitably get out and the girl who accused of him rape confesses to him that she made the whole thing up. He recorded the whole thing. The guy is exonerated and the woman, who was given a $1M settlement, got sued by the school district for the money but never was tried or convicted of anything. She completely ruined this guys life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Banks_(American_football)

I absolutely think Kane should rot in jail if he did something. But if it becomes pretty clear that the allegations are exaggerated or made up entirely, he ought to sue her and her parents for every penny they have. I know that won't make him look any better but he'll never repair the damage that has been done to his name.

Let's not go down that political path; it's OT and not really germane to the case. I think all of us can agree that rape as bad as is ruining someone's life with a fake accusation, but that neither is necessarily the case here.

I will say that yes, while it's hard to prove rape, it's also hard to prove a false/wreck-your-life/money-grub accusation and those claims shouldn't (and aren't, for obvious reasons) ever be made lightly as it's yet another barrier to rape victims coming forward (i.e. not only am I going to be publicly eviscerated one way or another, there's a chance I'm actually going to get countersued), especially in a high-profile case like this one, which has been blasted by all sorts of folks for making it even harder for rape victims to come forward (on both the accuser and the accused's side).

It's hard to prove lack of consent. However, if she is claiming there was intercourse and Kane was denying there was intercourse, then consent becomes less of an issue. Proof of intercourse would mean Kane was lying. I'm just talking hypotheticals here, not claiming I know what they are each claiming.

Going with what we do know now, since the paper bag/evidence bag thing was a hoax, let's just apply some more common sense. The mother had the bag since August. Apparently the accuser knew of the existence of the bag since mom was with her at the hospital.

Only after reports broke of the negative waist-down DNA results does mom claim that someone anonymously puts the bag on her doorstep. The implication is that she's trying to discredit the DNA results by suggesting evidence was mishandled.

Was the accuser aware of her mom's hoax? She must have been in the loop before the attorney held his press conference. What did she know?

Who the hell fabricates a story like this when their child has allegedly been raped?

People do strange things when the potential of Millions of Dollars, might be involved.

Design is for NBA team only ,, They excluded NHL team from plans thus why it is so awful

If it would have been designed as originally planned for both leagues potentially it would have been fine

But it was cheaper to build NBA only

That makes a lot of sense.

Unacceptable for hockey fans, though...though not a lot one can do about it now except complain about ticket price for those seats!

Wow, they left the Island for that crap?

They had a perfectly solid rink with great history and left it for pure crap so they can tap into the cash in NYC (same as). Pure garbage.

It's all about money. Getting into the city raises the team value and exposure.

True true but that arena is the worst I have seen in the modern NHL. So many obstruction seats is just sad. Sure the old Garden had a bunch as did the Montreal Forum but in the new NHL that takes the cake. If you are going to make the move then you should have made it properly, that is my point.

You're misreading what I said. I'm discussing a conviction. That has nothing to do with what what the grand jury does or doesn't do.

Why would a conviction at this point be "highly unlikely?" Nothing you have written gives an indication one way or the other. Lay out your case, please.

And by the way, mom being a ****ing moron with her head firmly up her ass has nothing to do with the case-in-chief.

They easily could have updated it though. Sign a short term lease with Barclays and that would be acceptable but going 15 years is disastrous. It's like the Aud in Buffalo.

Would rather they stayed on the island. Just doesn't seem right with them in Brooklyn.

Shame they couldn't build a new rink and just use the Barclays as a temporary home for a few years.

With regards to the lease, who knows, maybe there is some sort of Claude to get out after a certain point and/or if there is somehow an agreement to build a new barn in Nassau eventually.

Seabrook - 8 yrs @ $5.8/season? He's 30 now, how soon does he start showing his age. And Bowman better hope the cap starts a meteoric rise starting next year.

Looks like 6.875/yr to me.

That's gonna hurt in a few years.

Price you pay for victory, and they had literally no alternative...only Kings and Hawks fans seem to understand that right now.

Cap won't be going up. Wouldn't shock me if it shrunk. They're roster cap will be a total disaster in a few years, but you have to keep them together. Especially when you could win another few Cups in the next couple years.
