On the one hand, he took the easy way out and chased money over taking a little less to stay in a place where he felt comfortable and the fans and his teammates loved and supported him.

On the other I still hope he bounces back somewhere, and gleefully it won’t be in Edmonton where their entire structure is ‘pass it to Connor!’ and Darnell Nurse is the league’s 5th highest paid Dman.

They’re gonna have to retain at least 1.5 and attach an asset of decent value to get a 5th back for him.

Would it have ended this way if he took 4x4 here?

Calgary is in an interesting spot they've started off the year poorly. and to me looking at there Contracts this is the make or brake year. they need to decide weather this group is good enough or retool/rebuild. Conroy should wait till about end of December and then make his decision. if he chooses retool/rebuild having Hanifin/Zadorov/Tanev/Lindholm as rentals at the deadline could bring back a lot of draft and prospect capitol. also with Magianpane having one year left he could be a guy who could be moved in a sign and trade this summer, and Anderson at 27 might be a guy you could get great value from as well.

or they could decide to be good enough and re-sign some of these guys. but with Huberdeau and Kadri looking like there on the decline already it's hard to believe they have the makings of a strong cup contender in a year or 2,

Watched that Devils vs Avs game last night.

The overall pace of play and puck movement was extremely impressive.

Rantanen is such a great player and would probably receive more credit playing in a bigger market.
I really wish we drafted Rantanen over Marner...

I had a bet on the Avs so was watching the game intensely and he just makes so many smart little plays and can play a power game when needed.

In the third period when the game was tied, he literally loses possession of the puck but finishes his check against Marino and it all leads to Johansen eventually getting a turned over pass in the slot.

Without him finishing that check they most likely never score that goal that lead to the win.

I wonder if the Flames would retain on Kadri's contract to trade him somewhere. If they buy him out in 2024, his buyout is until 2034 and 2 of those years would be 4.4M of dead cap space and every other year would be 2M of dead cap space. Even if they wait until 2025 it's about the same but until 2033. If they retain 3.5M on the contract instead, it's only until 2029, and they would likely get a good asset back in doing so.

I would think long and hard about acquiring Kadri at 50%... hell I would think about it if they retained around 2M. He's much better than what he's shown.

As for the Flames, they just need to at least retool. Flip every pending UFA for as many picks and prospects/young players that you can. Just give up on the year and go into next year with a ton of cap space and a fresh look.

The Leafs have a short window once they free up some cap space so a guy like Kadri is worth a chance.

I would think Calgary would be very against the year retaining salary on Kadri this early in his contract with another 5 years left. also at this point I don't think I have interest in Kadri anymore.

I think Kadri/Hurberdeau would be guys they look at for veteran leadership for the kids in a rebuild/retool with there current deals there pretty much untradeable.
