Clearly the marching orders were to give Crosby et al one last chance. So they went all in to try and fulfill that chance.

It failed. Then you reanalyze where you are and make changes in the plan accordingly. I think going all in was reasonable, and I think throwing in the towel and selling now is also reasonable.

Rutherford and Hextall had pretty much killed all futures the Penguins had, so they might as well have thrown their last cards in.

An interesting question is what was the real alternative for the Pens?

Like their ability to be even remotely competitive with what's left of Crosby/Malkin is 1-2ish years was basically limited to maybe 1-2 major moves this year. And with that in mind they got a top pairing D man. I don't think there's a lot of alternatives that likely could have changed their fate this season.

The last year or even two of EKs contract isn't going to matter to the team which will be in full rebuild/tear down mode at that point anyways.

Penguins choices now are not that unique to a former contender. Dubas has basically entered into the post Ken Holland years in Detroit where the team is going to collapse, get liquidated and go through a rebuild of unknown duration.

Good chance to make up points on both Florida and Boston tonight. A bit surprising to see Tampa score so many on Florida already. I won't be surprised if Florida comes back to tie it up, but a good start for Tampa at least.

When did Hyman rack up 46 goals?! Wow
When mcdavid decided he wanted an assist record.

I suspect it's begin to really sink in mentally that he's entering the absolute twilight of his playing career
He could have done the fanbase a solid and allowed himself to be traded to Colorado for byram++. Clearly the never ending retirement tour is more important.

In the NHL game tonight, TB looks much better and goodness we need these teams in a playoff series.

With Panthers losing, and Boston likely winning... Boston takes over the division lead tonight.

I didn't predict anything. All I said is that Boston was cratering, which is exactly what they were doing.

But you never notice Toronto cratering? We gave up 2 goals in the last 90 seconds couldn’t score on a 4 on 3.

You have predicted many things. All which have been way off so far

Yeah, I noticed Toronto cratering. It was bad. I don't think anyone here expected that to happen. I was surprised the leafs were even winning that game, as I didn't expect them to beat Carolina.

Vasi was huge tonight. Panthers outshot the Lightning 50-16.
Tampa needs him to be that guy again in the worst way.
