I get that they wanted to compete this year, and they made steps to try to do that... but shouldn't the writing be on the wall now? Crosby had a great year and the group just isn't good enough.

What is there to understand? Look at the moron who is in charge of roster construction. Kyle Dubas is in the Mike Milbury class of GM, he has no clue what he's doing, he along with the young dork that Arizon hired a few years ago, they are both frauds that know nothing about hockey, sports or asset management.
