A few more games and they may not be.
The slimmest of margins right now, absolutely. With that being the prevailing logic though, adding to the team theoretically boosts the chances of success in that regard.

How did Dubas manage to get Michael Bunting back in the Guentzel trade for Pittsburgh when he was not interested in re-signing him as a Leaf just last year? Poor Sid.

What a shit return for guentzel. Bunch of quantity over quality for the best rental. Didn't even get a first (unless canes make it to finals and at that point its 31/32)

The real question is how many were former Soo Greyhounds……..

I don’t understand Pittsburgh at this point. It should be rebuild time now that the gamble to compete didn’t work.

Bunting should be flipped at 50%. Sell off anyone useful, who will go, and utilize the retention slots to maximize your returns.

Ownership and Crosby wants to compete. Not ready for the rebuild just yet.

Leafs bring back Bunting at 50%?

I get that they wanted to compete this year, and they made steps to try to do that... but shouldn't the writing be on the wall now? Crosby had a great year and the group just isn't good enough.

Is the expectation that next year, a year older, somehow they'll be better?

Leafs bring back Bunting at 50%?

He just didn't produce in the playoffs either... so, as much as that regular season chemistry was good, I don't think he makes sense.

Canes got rid of the headache and added a good player. They still need more jam and it’s probably too late.

It's the FSG ownership group. They are the ones who wanted Sid, Malkin and Letang back as well as full backers of Mike Sullivan.

It’s crazy Dubas ended up with Bunting again after he was all but ready to let him walk as a UFA in another organization less than 12 months ago. Let’s see him word salad this to Sidney Crosby.

I think Fenway Sports Group is going to realize they don’t have hockeys Theo Epstein after all. But on the other hand can’t see Pittsburgh being all that important in that conglomerate so maybe it doesn’t matter.

Dubas is a snake, he’ll hire a GM and blame the next few years of incompetence on him, I don’t know what the Fenway Sports Group were thinking when they hired Boy Wonder, but I’ll bet there’s buyer’s remorse now…….

It shouldn't be a shock because the majority of people knew this was going to be the fate of the Penguins this year and in the coming years, but the Guentzel trade just makes the Karlsson trade all that more baffling. It was such an unnecessary move that wasted a 1st (which could turn out to be a high lottery pick) and tying up a lot of cap space. In a matter of months they went from trying for one or two more runs at a Cup to trying to set up the team's future 5/7/10 years from now.

A lot of their fans thought the opposite.

They saw a team that could still compete and make the playoffs.

Even now many of them can't accept it and blame Sullivan. So what if they made the playoffs this season under a new coach?

That team isn't going anywhere.

What is there to understand? Look at the moron who is in charge of roster construction. Kyle Dubas is in the Mike Milbury class of GM, he has no clue what he's doing, he along with the young dork that Arizon hired a few years ago, they are both frauds that know nothing about hockey, sports or asset management. The dork in Arizona went up in flames and will likely never be back in the NHL, somehow there are still people that haven't realized the same about Dubas.
