A Leafs and Rangers win tonight leaves the Leafs 6 points out of the #1 seed in the East with at least 1 game in hand on everyone.

Make it happen boys!

I think this is what we'll see tonight. Florida will be in tough against the Rangers.

Vegas isn't in danger of missing the playoffs at the moment, but a few more losses could make things dicey for them

Imagine you win your division and your reward is the defending champs in the first round lol
This is why I don't hold out much hope for teams like Winnipeg or Vancouver. Winnipeg finishes second in their division and gets stuck with Colorado or Dallas in the first round. But if they hold on and win their division (but finish behind Vancouver)...they potentially get Vegas? Yeesh.

Goodbye Lindy. Horrific goaltending and injuries have really screwed him though.

The Devil's are a joke.

They had Brunette in their hands. He's probably gonna be coach of the year. Now they're stuck with Green instead.

Travis Green is a horrible hockey coach who has no right being anywhere near those kids.

He did a terrible job in Vancouver. The Canucks stunk his entire tenure there. He set them back for years.

How anyone can expect this guy to save their season is beyond me.

In fact I expect just the opposite. There isn't gonna be a new coach bounce this time. If anything they're gonna sink even further in the standings.

They'll need another first overall if they hope to compete with Travis Green as their new head coach.

I highly doubt Travis Green is sticking around long term lol. I think this is a sign of the devils pulling the plug on their season. Ruff was gone at the end of the year anyways. Doubt they make any moves for a goalie now and likely wait until the summer to do that.

For a big two way C, Barkov got silky hands.

I've watched two seasons of Panthers hockey while Jagr was there. Just watch some of his shootouts. Sick

Just the second goal, I remember that one, that light tap pass over his own skate... that's sick SO

And Barkov is pretty much elite defensively. Hell of a player.

Pretty crazy assist by Barkov:

I always loved Barkov and Huberdeau so it's always a treat to see him getting his flowers.

I wouldn't get tooo excited yet
He's 26 years old and has failed to crack bottom feeder roster after bottom feeder roster
I agree but it would be nice to see him getting his career on track after being a journeyman so far.

That’s exactly right.
I looked at the 21-22 roster just now, if they wanted Hyman, they could had trade away Kerfoot and not sign Petr and just resign Hyman and use Hutch as backup to Campbell. Not to mention not signing Richtie as UFA.
They choose not to bc Dubas and MGT didn’t think Hyman was worth what he was asking.
I don’t think Hyman would have gotten 50goals if he stays here and if he maintained his level of play, does he worth his current contract?

I can't believe this actually happened, someone legitimately suggesting to use Hutchinson as an NHL goalie.

I agree with the overall premise that the Leafs could have kept Hyman around for the money he wanted (~$5m), but nobody would have been happy with the term on that. Additionally, in order to fit Hyman at that caphit would have required running a bottom six & 3rd D pair of sub-1M guys. That means no Kerfoot, Engvall, Mikheyev, Nick Ritchie, Mrazek, Kase, Kampf or bringing in Giordano (wow that's a lot of guys some fans will argue were useless, with the benefit of hindsight) Ritchie definitely wasn't good, and Mrazek unfortunately turned out the way pessimists expected, but the rest were all legitimately good defensively. I'm not confidant that Dubas (or anyone) could have replaced those actually good defensive forwards with guys who were even cheaper and maintained the overall good team defense (Engvall and Kase were making $1.25, Kampf $1.5, Mikheyev $1.645; those are/were good value contracts). There is a limit to how many actually good NHL defensive forwards you can sign in 1 off-season, especially when you aren't willing to offer them any money. Hypothetically, Joey Anderson, Alex Steeves, Michael Amadio, Brett Seney, Kirill Semyonov might have been the direct replacements (as those guys all played a few NHL games for the Leafs in the season after Hyman left); only 1 of those guys has actually stuck in the NHL, and I don't know that Amadio is any good defensively, so the Leafs would have been rolling with a high-scoring top6 group, and a bottom 6 forward group that wasn't good defensively and also probably wouldn't have been able to contribute offensively; that sounds like the strategy of a team hoping to just make the playoffs, not a serious contender.

I would also like to point out that when Hyman left, he had a grand total of 13 pts in 28 playoff games, so it's not like he had the results to fall back on. He just played a style of game that looked like he should be good in the playoffs.

One last point I have to make, is that Hyman gets to play his strong wing on the Oilers. That wouldn't have been the case if he stayed in Toronto. He basically spent his whole time here playing his off-wing in the top 6, or driving the 3rd line from RW. I don't believe he would have been able to produce like he has without (1) McDavid and (2) playing RW.
