Yep it’s a parity league where many teams think they can do something in the playoffs this season.
Lots of mediocre teams battling with other mediocre teams. I don't know if that's better or worse than the way it used to be. If nothing else, I think it has to make you appreciate what Tampa did even more. It may be a while before we see another team go to three straight Cup finals.

I could also see it driving up prices from now until the TDL as more teams will think they have a chance to get into the playoffs.

I feel like deadline acquisition costs rise each season like inflation. An average defenseman generally costs a first round pick, and maybe more. It's why I think there is no chance the Leafs end up keeping their 2024 first round pick. It will be a mandatory piece of any trade they make, even for a guy like Tanev.

They are a bubble team at best which makes Kutch look all the more amazing this year. He is not even playing for a new contract and has 3 years left on that deal. It is just not fair.

Not really. Tampa still has great scoring. They are a bubble team now because they are mediocre defensively more than anything. I agree with the sentiment he’s playing great and his deal is a steal though

Following more non Leafs game this year and have been impressed with certain teams currently overachieving.

Makes me think that even if this season doesn't work out, we have more than enough talent to do a quick effective retool on the fly especially if you bring in a new coach that can shake things up or possibly tweak the playstyle.

The Metro looks pretty weak moving forward and our division isn't a strong as it once was.

Defense is for sure Tampa's main problem, but the goaltending has also been pretty mediocre and, like many teams, they struggle with secondary scoring. At least in their case it's the natural progression from being a champion and suffering cap casualties.

Yeah I was including goaltending among their defensive issues. As for secondary scoring yes, but that wouldn’t notably impact Kucherov’s regular season production As he doesn’t really play with anyone other than their best players.

Agreed. Ultimately, I find it difficult to criticize Tampa too much because whatever failings they have are largely the result of how much they have won. It is a good trade-off.

Yeah, they would never have been able to hold it all together. They won while they had it, that’s what’s important

I see Torts hit another milestone and the Flyers are playing well. Love that dog loving maniac, tough “old school” guy who’s adapted to the modern player and still succeeding.
Everyone hates the old school tyrannic coaches, but in many cases the collective hate the players had for said coaches was a unifying force that brought the players together, I know Larry Robinson said the Canadiens wouldn’t have been so tight without their collective dislike of Scottie Bowman………

Perhaps the key is they all have to hate him, and if you have some coaches favorites, who don't get the same discipline you probably just end up with a divided room.

I think the ideal coaching style these days is a hybrid -- a coach who gives you tough love and pushes you hard to make you a better player, but one you know has your back 100%. Someone like Brind'Amour strikes me as that type. All those players seemingly love to play for him and would do anything he asks of them.

The issue with Torts isn't his ability to squeeze what he can out of a team. He's proven in his many different stops he is successful in that. The issue is that his bombastic style wears thin and his shelf life barely lasts beyond 5 years. He's in year 2 with the Flyers and already seeing massive improvement over last year. Will he be around though in years 5/6/7 when they may be legitimate Cup contenders? That remains to be seen.

Torts would be good within the old system where players UFA age was around 30.

Today, the players can tell him to suck it much earlier.
