Lafferty is a better player than Gregor but he also costs more. I'm more concerned about the early play of Kampf who seems like he's skating in sand at the moment.

I like Jack as a person so much and appreciate what he did for this team here, but holy Moses did we all call what a disaster his contract was going to be for the Oilers.
It’s funny because the Oilers were straight up tampering through the media before free agency even started.

“My sources have told me the Oilers are looking to go after Jack Campbell. Willing to do 5 x 5” - every NHL reporter

Amazing human being, inconsistent goalie.

He's the type you sign to like a 2 or 3 year deal at 2-3 mil and ride in a tandem. Not pay to be a true starter.

Has he looked any better from the hit he took from Gudas in game 4. Not sure, I don't remember him in game 5

None the less, maybe it's a chemistry thing, with two brand new players

Skinner and Campbell are quite the pairing in net.

That was one of the worst teams he could have gone to.
Even in an ideal situation that contract was going to be tough but the Oilers? Almost as much pressure as our market and way more expectations then he ever had here with him coming in on a big deal. There were a bunch of people in that market predicting he was going to win the vezna lol
No defence and forwards that constantly cheat on offence all that for a guy who struggles with self confidence.

I feel bad for him as he is genuinely one of the nicest people in the game but he got what he chose.

People love to rag on Toronto's D, but take a hard look at the Oilers' defense. If McDavid/Draisaitl don't outscore their problems, they're screwed. Campbell can only do so much.

You'd figure with a moustache like that, Skinner would be able to stop a few pucks.

Hard to blame Campbell for taking the money, I mean who wouldnt in his position. But also cant give him the benefit of the doubt. Hes been awful and is nowhere near worth that contract.

Oilers are not winning shit with their goaltending.

They have to have some better own zone effort and coverage. It isn't even players leaving the zone early it's just space allowed.

Two of the goals last night were high (legal) deflections right in front of Skinner.

230 lbs., maybe shave off that 'stache and get down to playing weight.

We watched enough games to determine Keefe's system made him look better then he was. Overall a good goalie here but not 5 million. That 2nd half should have been a big warning sign.

Some still have old narratives that Leafs are a bad defensive team. Really starting from the Canadian division, Leafs have been a really good defensive team. Even when Keefe took over and he had Barrie and Ceci on his defence core, he still made the team look average on defence which is amazing.

There's a bit of a distinction between having good team defense vs having a strong blueline though. That would be the difference between winning a bunch of games with Jordie Benn, Mac Hollowell, Victor Mete in a pinch, by committee with forward help vs a defensive corps made up of elite defensemen that will be a monster to play against, like Vegas.

Actually, I think Campbell is a very talented goalie, could be amongst the leagues elites.

But…. It appears to me as though he has some sort of depression issues. It’s been
alluded to a number of times, him needing to take time off before the Leafs, statements from last year… and when he gets down on himself, he just can’t play. So much pressure on a goaltender, and to have those types of challenges must be terrible. I think the Leafs understood these issues and moved on from him. The signs were certainly there.

Various quotes over time.

With Leafs.

“It’s simple. I’m the same goalie I was to start year as far as strategy and talent, things like that,” Campbell said. “Just relax and having some fun and not beat myself up too much. So, I’m still working. You know, it’s a process. But I have great people in my life, great teammates, and I’ll snap out of it.

It’s a mental block kinda thing going on right now that he’s got to work his way through, but he’ll get there,” said coach Sheldon Keefe

—————————

when the Dallas Stars traded him to the Los Angeles Kings in June 2016.

Campbell was miserable. He’d fallen out of love with hockey bouncing between the AHL and the third-tier ECHL with no light at the end of a tunnel that seemed to be leading nowhere.

And he didn’t have any answers.

“It was bad,” Campbell recalled. “It just wasn’t fun anymore. It really took a toll on my mental state.

“I felt like I was on an island.”

But he would soon find a lifeline on the West Coast – Dusty Imoo, head of goaltending development with the Kings.

He was a lost soul,” Imoo said. “He was really beaten down and a lot of it was self-abuse. He had beaten himself up. He put so much pressure on himself early and quickly.

“Any failure, he took it very personally ... he felt he was a failure as a person.”

—————————-

In this interview, Campbell describes feeling unmotivated to play hockey and feeling as if the sport was no longer fun due to his inability to crack the NHL lineup. What really caught me was when he said he would “view myself in the mirror as like if I’m a good or bad person based on if I won or lost.”

The problem is not the D... its mcdavid and draisaitl only trying to be good in the offensive end and showing that exemple to the rest of the team who following... so the entire team thinking about one thing... offensive offenisve offensive... im pretty sure youre taking vasilevskiy shesterkins or anybody with the same way they are playing right now... they would look like average goalie...

Tampa was pretty bad on the road last year (worst road team to make the playoffs) and now again for two games.

Gonna be tough keeping pace with the big boys without Vasilevskiy bailing out their terrible D

They weren't going to keep pace even with Vasi. All dynasties come to an end at some point, and that is where Tampa is at right now. They might end up in third in the Atlantic because the division will be much more mediocre this season, but they aren't anything close to a contender at this point. The East will be Toronto/Jersey and then everyone else.
