Sooo.... the Canucks had 1 year run under Gillis in 2011 but lost in round 2 the 2 prior years and out in round 1 the 2 years after that.

You can’t sit around just collecting assets. Sooner or later you make a push.

The 2 Russians are likely gone. Duchene up to him what he wants to do. I think Dzingel signs with them.

The difference is Canucks core was intact to contend for the playoffs for multiple years before their window closed.

Columbus is about to lose their core via free agency and have only a 3rd round pick and a 7th round pick in the upcoming draft. They're going to be terrible shape as soon as Panarin/Bob/Duchene leave. I have no idea why Dzingel would stay either.

Dubois, Jones, Warenski, Calvert is still a solid core. D core is excellent. Offense will take a hit for sure with Bread Man.

You get the sense this is San Jose's year. Coming from 3-1 down in the series vs Vegas. 3-0 down in game 7. Team is rallying around Pavelski and this might be Jumbo Joes last post-season.

Hard to not be jealous of Boston and SJ. They were good when we were actually good, and now look poised to play each other in the SCF. Now that's a re-tool.
True. But look at the guys who are still left on those rosters from 2011 compared to who was on Vancouver.

Marchand, chara, Bergeron, Rask, Krecji for Boston still playing major roles.

Pavelski, Couture, Burns, Vlasic, Thornton for SJ.

Edler, Tanev, Luongo, Kesler and Hamhuis are like the only ones left who played for the Canucks who were in the NHL this past season. Lu is way past his prime. Kesler has hip issues and likely done on ltir. Canucks left with 2 oft injured Dmen.

Canucks roster overall Was older than these 2 teams.

Both those organization also drafted and managed assets very well. There is certainly a viable scenario where the Sedins would actually still be playing and contributing at a Thornton-like level if the Canucks weren't a dumpster fire.

They would be secondary contributors at best. Need new group to lead the way.

Like Thornton is in San Jose? Yeah, that was his point.

The Sharks had one bad season, much like Gillis' final season here, retooled and kept on ticking.

That shows the difference between management groups....imagine if Virtanen turned out like Meier did for them.

He didn’t. Neither did Jensen turn out like Rackell, Schroeder like ROR, etc down the line.

Jumbo Joe is at most 6th now the sharks forward list behind Pavs, Couture, Hertl, Kane, Meier, 4 of which they drafted.

Boston they nailed big in 2014 and 2016 drafts. They would be freaking scary if they. Nailed 2015 as well.
