So mad about Cernak and Kubalik.

Can you imagine those players on the roster now?

Guys, Sergachev is a pipe dream. TB will re-sign him.

Do you even know what Sergachev did in Russia as a teenager? KGB counter-intelligence. There is no Sergachev.

As pretty much rumored , Pietro signing with the Knights. They were working on bodies to move out to clear space, I guess those are finalized or in the process of that.

Moving MAF and that salary not easy, heard thet the Wings would take him but wanted Cody Glass as well, that didn't go. Schmidt may be moved also.

I'm just still confused as to why St. Louis would sign Krug over Pietrangelo. Now If Vegas gets Pietro they may well be the favorite in the west.

Money. 6.5 is what they could afford. Also Krug is a bit younger, a rightie (so the Blues top 4 will now be 2 Right/2Left). Krug is a good d, they knew they couldn't afford the LTC 9 to 10 that Pietro wanted so they got the next best avialable.

Vegas is dumb to trade Schmidt even if they land Pietrangelo. They would have a great top pair and still a decent D but I’d get rid of Martinez.

McNabb-Pietrangelo
Theodore-Martinez
Holden-Whitecloud

Decent I guess

LD Nic Hague is also likely going to be a regular for them sooner rather than later. 6'6", skates well, and has a good first pass. I'd say he's likely to take Holden's spot sooner rather than later. He played 30+ games last season.

Agree. Schmidt is a good defenseman. I think they lost their chnce with MAF, several teams interested, but at with Vegas eating 2 to 3M of his salary and providing a pick. They balked and teams moved on, now they are stuck with him. And teams know they need money to sign Pietro and because of that, they lost leverage.

They're also over the cap and a bit of a captive audience so they don't really get to choose what assets to dump with aplomb. They'd have to move Martinez and Fleury etc. So there's a bit of a cost attached if it isn't a player like Schmidt who will undoubtedly have suitors. Hell he'd be nice next to Drew.

Hall to Buffalo 1yr/8M is a bizarre signing.

I guess that means there wasn't many options out there for him. Teams must be cash strapped right now.

I wonder what kind of offers Pietrangelo is getting.

a one-year show me deal is a pretty good idea. Say what you want about Hall, he's a one man line. But he's also an MVP who's on his 4th team in 5 years, and those teams are pretty much consistently better before he comes and after he leaves. I'd be scared shitless of giving that bad-luck-charm any kind of term.

Edmonton broke him and ::cough:: Yakupov.

Martinez doesn't have the same value, and A-Mart also had insanely good chemistry with Theodore.

The cap usually trumps value. Sign AP, and you're signing him forever. Don't trade Schmidt, and you have 2 big contracts on defense who are 29/30 years old. Trade Schmidt, and you have more wiggle room in the future.

10 team no-trade list. Plus the teams that can't afford him financially(still has $27m coming). Plus the teams that can't fit him under the cap. That's probably a limited number of teams that are in this.

Shoot, dude. $8 million for Hall for only a year? I wonder if we could have thrown our hat in there. We still have some space. The deal for Buffalo is fine. It's like if he's playing good and putting a fair amount of top-tier points, but the team sucks, just trade him at the deadline for some picks to a contender (may still need to retain salary though).

I wonder where Toffoli is going though and I hope it's not leaning towards him signing back to LA. Nothing wrong with him, of course, but the moves we made, the last few seasons, indicates us having to be strong, mentally, about moving forward away from the cup-winning core we had. Otherwise, we end up in a situation like the Blackhawks are having right now. Full of pretty disgruntled guys that do not know what direction their team is going in. At least, for us, we know now we are in rebuilding mode. Just took a longer while to realize it.
