Yeah, I figured he'd hang the skates. Such a great guy on the ice and in the room. Very touching send off. I hope he comes back to the NHL in some fashion as a coach or commentary guy. I'm sure he's got stories.

Has anybody here commented on the fact that we are incredibly lucky to have finished selling off our valuable pieces the last couple years prior to this moment? The market has completely shifted. Who knows what prices will be doing this trade deadline and beyond.

^^ Yeah, we're pretty lucky. We got good value from the guys we traded off before their value would have taken a nosedive due to external pressure. We don't need to worry about needing to sign any big UFAs that was under our team this year. Prospect pool is great. Sure, we have $11M of dead cap space, but we get $9M back after this next season is over. This is the most relaxed and least anxious I've been feeling regarding this team since before the Kovalchuk signing.

So it appears that deal is done, Vegas sheds salary and by other rumors are amping up to sign Pietro.

Jets need help on defense , and maybe Stasny is their stop gap for this year, at 2C, but they need to improve their defense, and that 2d. But taking on Stasny leaves under 5M, unless they move Laine and/or put Little on LTIR.

Simmonds heading to Toronto. $1.5M for one year. Surprised at the NMC, but I don't know too much about the pros and cons on both player/organization front regarding NMC.

Do the Kings put a claim on Tyler Johnson? It might not be a bad idea to gain a free asset and he likely will be claimed by Seattle in a year.

Nope, wouldn't risk it. It would put LA in a position to potentially have to add a sweetener to have Seattle potentially take Johnson. He's not that good of a player for the amount he is making. He will still have 3-years left after this coming season.

I guess the cap going flat has changed things, but 5 million for a 20 goal/50 point player doesn't seem to be too ridiculous.

If I'm the Kings, all I would be looking for is to fill a couple spots on the roster with bargain basement deals such as what Bobby Ryan is going to get. This team is not contending for a playoff spot this season. Just stay the course.
