Yeah, Tampa is obviously a well built team top to bottom. On paper, they've been the "best" or at least one of the best teams in hockey for years.

I think a lot of people here soured on them after years of praise before they had actually won anything. Moreover, I can't imagine a more antithetical team to the golden year Kings. Their strengths were our weaknesses, and vice versa. So there's a lot of competing values at work here.

Yeah. They are good. They also only won it once there were no fans in attendance and never had to go in to another team's arena. There is a huge asterisk on it. I'd take a 3rd Kings title with an asterisk no problem but it still is what it is.

No denying there is a big difference between the playoffs this season and winning Game 7 in 2014 on the road in Chicago.

Also, no denying Tampa has a talented group of players.

yeah it's nothing against tampa, this entire playoffs is a sham though. the thing about the playoffs has ALWAYS been the grueling season immediately followed by the brutal away games in hostile buildings.. this had neither

yeah they won the tournament, but it's not the same at all. i still stand by what i said before, that this should have never happened and they should've just let the season be a wash like the lockout seasons and move on the next one

I don't think an asterisk is necessary. I think they earned it.

Not coincidentally, the Lakers are in the finals and the Dodgers are in the playoffs, and it's safe to say I'd very much like these potential championships to "count."

and the padres finished a regular season* above .500 so i can end my self-imposed ban from watching them

It’s pretty amazing that the top 5 picks from 2008 draft (Stammer, DD, Bogo, Petro and L Schenn all are Cup winners.

Mentioned that to my friends yesterday (realistically they didn't care), but that gave me an excuse to dig out some of their draft year photos:

.

Bogosian gave up a decent amount of money in order to terminate his contract with Buffalo to sign with a contender since his contract (even with retention) was too hard for teams to fit. I wonder if we'll see more players do that in the future?

It still definitely counts...it just isn't like the others and comes with an asterisk.

I don't think the record books or Stanley Cup itself will have an asterisk next to the team that won the 2020 Stanley Cup. Nor will the NBA or MLB or NFL...
I will myself a mental note (*) to put a mental * on 2020 whenever it is mentioned.

Tampa Bay was still the best team though, and it was clearly evident in the territorial advantage the held on their opponents throughout the playoffs.

Dallas representing the West shows there are still some young teams in the Western Conference which either need some finishing touches or a basic part or two to get to being a championship caliber team. Thinking of teams like Colorado, Edmonton, and possibly Vancouver. I think the Vegas window remains open for at least one more season.

It will have one in the minds of many. All sports for this season. There just isn't any way around it.

Still wish the Kings won it, or the Tigers won the World Series...or the Panthers win the Super Bowl. Look at my rooting interests. Yikes.

Only non-asterisk title this season will be if I repeat as champ in my fantasy football league.
