There are many reasons why we did not trade for him.
1. Any trade involving a dman would have had to have a dman going back. Boston wasn't going to take on any players because of their cap issues.
2. The Sens are a budget team. I doubt Melnyk would want to pay a dman who is playing in bingo and on a one way contract.
3. Murray putting too much faith into our defense.
What makes you say this? BM has the defence he has because they were drafted by these wonderful scouts everyone says we have. Cowen was a top 10 pick, most on here expected he would be a top 4 defenceman, should we give up on him now?
People were bragging about Wiercioch being a top 4 defencemen two yrs ago & last yr he too a step back, should we give up on him now? Ceci took a big step forward last yr, Karlsson, Methot & Ceci are arguably in the top 4 on this team, they need to find one more guy. Do they wait until their young defencemen grow into the jobs or make a trade to get one & give up on the guys they have?
Gudas - I think Upshall was in a vulnerable spot & I thought regardless if the hit was clean or not, that they were not suppose to hit a guy in a vulnerable position, like coming at them from a blind spot? Gudas IMO saw & took advantage of a guy with his head down & hit him hard. Whether he meant to injure him or not is irrelevant since Upshall wasn't looking, he was going to get rocked for sure & Gudas knew it & took advantage of it. If there isn't a rule regarding vulnerability & hitting to injure there will be one soon, they are changing everything else in hockey it seems. Then of course, players will start faking their vulnerability some how to draw penalties. There should be fines & suspensions for divers doubling the penalty with each infraction.
