... Dallas has Eaves playing with Spezza and Hemsky? Or is that just Eaves being slow on a change and getting caught with a - unnecessarily.

Dallas commentator praising spez for his defence.

His defence is pretty good, despite the crap he had to endure here in Ottawa. Not GREAT defence, but about average, especially in his last 3 years with us. He worked hard to shore up that part of his game.

His problem was always giveaways & broken plays.

Spezza can get 100 points but he will suck because he isn't that great defensively. Yet we praise the defenceman that can't pay defence.

It seems like a lot of teams played like **** in their first game of the season.

Colorado, Edmonton, LA, Arizona, etc..

Flyers just lost their 2nd game in a row.

only 1 game in, but if you're the Oilers, you really don't want to be losing to the rebuilding Calgary Flames who also played the night before.

That depends. Are they going for another 1st overall? In that case they definitely do want to be losing to Calgary.

It is really baffling to be honest how Edmonton can still look as bad as they did last night against Calgary with the amount of talent they have on that roster. I don't care how old they are. Especially against a Calgary team that just played (and lost) a hard fought game against Vancouver the night before.

I don't know if they're just trying to get as much talent as possible to form something of a dream team similar to the 80s Oilers, but it's really mind boggling. You would think a half-competent coaching staff would be able to at least fight for a playoff spot with that group of players.

Head down

Clean play

Head targeted and only point of contact, no last moment change in positioning by the person hit, suspension absolutely warranted. This isn't the 80's anymore, the NHL has to consider the massive law suits if the allow that kind of play.
