Should have given the C to Pasta rather than the Rat.

Though, if we are comparing facial features Couture looks more like a rat than Marchand.
My only issue with Marchand is that he's 2 or 3 years away, at most, from retiring. Just seems odd to have a captain carousel like that. Usually they'll just have multiple alts or commit to some rotation until someone steps up.

In 3 years we'll be living this same reality when Doughty is given the C.

And Pasta just signed his biggee contract that kicks in this year.

Seems more like a recognition to Marchand for all his years of service. The Bruins aren’t doing shit in the next few years anyway.

That's fair and likely very true. Just unconventional in my opinion, based on how teams typically handle captaincy.

But with people second guessing Brown getting a statue, I've learned that by and large fans (including myself) know shit about players we dislike on the ice. If he's done so much the Bruins want to honor him with the title, then who am I to second guess.

Which is the opposite of how it normally works, so obviously it was a "mutually agreed upon" resignation they negotiated...

Usually that works the other way around. You can’t just give up on your job and get paid. They tend to call that breach of contract.
I think it's clear he made a deal with CBJ to walk away without further incident. I don't think he did anything egregious enough to get fired outright, but at the same time it's been too much negative attention and a big distraction.

Very interesting, I would have thought Zegras would have joined Boldy, Caufield, Sanderson, Stutzle etc and signed an 8x8. I wonder if it's the Ducks or Zegras who are opposed to that? With how laughable that offer is, I'm guessing it's the Ducks not wanting to shell out big money rather than Zegras wanting a bridge deal to potentially cash in a $10m offer in 3-4 years.

I can almost guarantee that's the case. Ducks ownership hasn't really shown a willingness to spend big dollars on anyone in quite a while.

I am not so sure that the Ducks are in a hurry to get married to Zegras quite yet.

Especially if he's being a pissy little bitch over contract #s already, he hasn't shown anything but to be a guy who can score on the PP on a shitty team, he's gotta take a step, a bridge deal is the right move for both guys. If you're Zegras, bet on yourself.

I think a bridge deal for Zegras makes some sense.

But even on a short term deal 3-4M seems extremely low. I almost don't believe it.

They signed a 34yo Killorn 4 year 6.25M deal. If you're going to risk money, I'd rather spend it on 22yo with all his upside still in front of him.

Drysdale still unsigned, BTW.

Not really impressed with Verbeek thus far.

UFA vs RFA... anaheim isnt exactly a top draw for UFA (specially given the state of the team the last couple seasons).... so we def have to over pay a bit to get players to come here.

As for the zegras situation.... 3/4 is very low (but this is supposedly what our original offer was to terry too). It is negotiating... just unfortunate that 2 players that should benefit the most from a new coach/system and season are not there for the first couple days of camp.

I would comfortably give zegras 8 years and 8-9 mil.... my guess is zegras wanted a bridge tho (he prob looking at the hughes contract and how much money hughes is going to lose due to signing 8 years). He also seems like the type to bet on himself and the team is getting better which means zegras stats should be more favorable to more money... assuming he plays 82 games this year id be shocked if he doesnt hit ppg.

No clue what the drysdale holdup is, that one should be pretty easy to get figured out.

You just couldn't help but chime in could you? :)

I'm feelin what you're saying except for the UFA thing.

Yes I know it's a UFA vs RFA, and Anaheim isn't much of a draw, but signing a 34 year old to a contract like that with an NTC is dumb. There's a low probably it works out. If Verbeek is working with limited cash, this was a dumb way to spend it.
