Loved him as a player, and hated him as a rival. Good for him.
He was one of my top 5 players in the NHL not on the Leafs.

He is the kind of player and leader the Leafs have been missing for a few decades.

Ironically his retirement now, might move the Leafs closer to Cup competitiveness, then anything they could do themselves.

He was a big part of ending Leafs playoff season 3 times.

Nearly $61 mil per year for one player... and here we are arguing over a $83.5 mil cap for 23 players...

Bergeron great but overrated player on the mains

He is a hall of famer but sine of his more prominent/vocal fans pretended he was an elite franchise 1C for his entire career

He was a great 2C for 10 years and a great 1C for 6-7 years with 2.5years lost to injury/lockouts

He underperformed in the playoffs not va the leafs but his character can't be questioned as he battled through injuries no normal person would go through to play.

Better than Tavares for sure but Matthews is already better then him as long as he doesn't fall off a cliff.

If that's crazy check what Oil money can get a young french mutant ninja turtle for 1 year

On one hand I’m happy he’s gone and can’t hurt us anymore, on the other it’s sad to see a legend and great person retire from the game

I have a feeling we’ll see Bergeron again when he wins the 2023-24 Selke Trophy again. Oops.

seriously though ...who would the last Leafs player that was comparable be (on both sides of the puck), Keon?

Crazy amount of money. I can't be the only one who's never heard of this guy?

He's somewhere around the 20th-30th best player in the league.

The NBA has had a financial windfall from the new tv/streaming deals so you'll see a lot of these massive deals going forward.

Hard to believe that not too long ago the NHL and NBA were roughly on par in terms of popularity. Quite a striking difference between Bettman's performance over the last decade and Silver/Stern in the NBA.
