Come on. It was worth it just to hear people (especially my dad) butcher the pronunciation of his full name. I was friends with someone who worked at the Hockey Lodge back then, and she would laugh at how bad some folks would mess it up when asking for his jersey.

Now the fact that anyone actually wanted his jersey is a whole other matter
The only right way to say it was Benysuck

We have had some doozie defenseman over the years, this player doesn’t really belong in that tier but for me he stands out for having a good league reputation while being a garbage player for us. Willie Mitchell, the defensive specialist , who got his reputation after years of real hands on experience caused by recovering off of his own turnovers. His transition game was to first see if there was a spot high along the glass that he could use to dump the puck out under no duress, if that wasn’t an option then the next best thing was to put it into your teammates skates right at the blue line. Absolutely brutal to watch and a key contributor to our league wide perception as boring at the time.

Willie Mitchell was part of the reason Joe Sakic was the original Wild killer.

Joe was a smart man, the moment Willie got the puck, Joe would race to the boards and stop the puck from ringing out of the zone on the glass, then sneak right up into the slot and snipe one of his patented lethal wristers... no chance for the goaltender. Then rinse and repeat the next time...

Willie, he was a dead puck era d-man through and through. The clutch and grab DPE never happens? He'd have had a very short career. Brutally bad puck skills, nothing but panic with the puck on his stick. Slow footed, but big and could drag himself on the forecheckers

Pitlick got $1.1m x 2 from MTL. Nice to see him get rewarded for a good season.

I think Lent Hughes has done a great job so far and will build a winner. Sharp guy

Crap. Upchuck Jr. is gonna end up with the Blues, isn't he? Everyone fleeing Calgary.
I don't think they have the cap space. Maybe something Tarasenko, Kyrou, and some draft picks might get it done?

Columbus is built... Oddly. They have three high priced wingers and one high priced defensemen. We'll see how it goes, maybe Kent Johnson takes a huge step forward.

But I remember a poster here saying that you can't win with a bunch of high priced wingers. Let's see what Columbus does.

Unreal.

I hate this for Florida. They don’t have a first rounder until 2026 now, and Huberdeau is a complete stud, many people believe he’s better than Tkachuk and they might be right. Add in a solid defensemen and the pick, I’m just not sure it makes sense. Only thing is Huberdeau only has a year left, so who knows if he resigns there

FL gets worse in the midst of a contending window and CGY might end up losing two high end UFAs for nothing again next summer. Pretty unexpected trade.

I think Florida got worse right away, but we’ll see the true value next summer with a few pieces going to Calgary being UFAs
If I'm Florida, I'd much rather pay 24 year old Tkachuk 8x$9.5M vs. 29 year old Huberdeau 8x$10M+ (just guessing on that).

If neither Huberdeau or Weegar will extend in Calgary, they should be flipped this summer still. Imagine what retaining 50% could look like as far as the return is concerned, even as rentals... Huberdeau at $2.95M and Weegar at ~$1.6M

You think they let either player get close to that after what just happened with Gaudreau?

Both Huberdeau and Weeger are UFAs after the season, and CGY just had 2 huge names not willing to sign long-term with them. Canada has a much higher tax rate than the US, and that hurts the Canadian teams.

Tkachuk and Huberdeau are the same quality of player, but Tkachuk is 4 years younger and now signed long-term ($9.5m x 8). Huberdeau probably gets a $9m+/yr deal next offseason.

If CGY doesn't flip or re-sign those UFAs, it turns into Tkachuk+4th for a 1st + Schwindt long-term; which is a Reinhart value trade.

If they are in a Playoff spot, maybe even fringe Playoff they'll keep them and make a run. It could be their last chance for awhile.
