I don't know where it originated from to know if it's legit-ish or not but it would explain the mystery around it. Also kinda hilarious.

Maybe. But maybe a team fresh off no punishment for transpiring to and covering up a sexual assault should be a bit more transparent in these matters. Otherwise they're welcoming any kind of rumors or speculation and they don't get to be picky on which ones they get. And saying "it's not that and you're disgusting for thinking that" only makes me question them more. "The lady doth protest too much" kinda thing. If you really wanna kill the rumors, tell everyone what happened.

Be mad at the Hawks for not being transparent all you want, no need to drag other people in the mud with them. There ARE others implicated in the BS rumor here that deserve better than that.

Maybe the Hawks should treat them better then?

I'm telling you the longer they keep up the secrecy, the longer people are going to cling to the current rumor, and choosing to keep it that way is just keeping the door open for his family to keep going through it. If you want to kill the rumor, tell people what he did.

There's no way I give any credence to such stupid social media BS. Period. This is a perfect example of why social media is destroying this world. Things like this were never meant to be taken seriously other than by drunk people at a bar getting laughs.

Social media, everyone lacks the most remote moral compasses, and just spew BS without any consideration of anyone, and then the masses are dumb enough to latch on to that BS as if it's true, based on literally nothing.

Doesn't really matter if it should or shouldn't be taken seriously at this point, the longer say "I can't tell you what happened but it wasn't that, and you should be ashamed for thinking that", the longer people are going to think it's that.

This is basic PR stuff. Deny what the bad rumor is, turn it around and insult people for believing the rumor, don't tell people what actually happened, if they keep talking about the rumor you don't like, deny it harder and insult them more. The more true it is, the more you try to shame them into feeling bad for believing it.

Ovechkin has really slowed way down, it would be pretty disappointing if he doesn't actually break the record after all the hype around him "probably" breaking it

If he played during Gretzky's era, he's have also played during the dead puck era at the end, so who the hell knows.
He'd be a completely different player himself, you don't just drop a player with modern training with modern equipment and get the same result. You'd be dropping him with era related training and equipment. I doubt he's ever played with a wood stick.

I agree it's not apples to apples comparison. But if Ovi had to play in a time where it was a slower pace and goalies with smaller pads, I think he still would have been a higher goal producer IMO.

Put Gretzky in the mid-2000s to now and he would could have been hurt a lot more. And with the decrease in enforcers, players have to now defend for themselves a lot more than they did pre-2000.

Bottom line, I hope he finds another gear and can come close or even break it. I'm not an Ovi fan any more than I am any other player in the league, but it's nice to see records that thought they would never be touched possibly be reached.
