Some guy on the MTL forum said that CHI and MTL working on a deal for Eller and Bickell/Stahlberg. Normally, I would brush this aside as pure fan speculation, but the connection of management teams between the two, Eller being on the outs somewhat and CHI's lack of good LWer depth and it's possible.

I really hope the Canucks are able to make an offer for Eller. He's big and skilled. He's got warts, but then you are taking on a project that could become something later.

Seriously though if the Hawks are offering Stahblerg, can the Canucks really match? A 27 year old legit top 6 forward is more than this roster can afford to give up. Unless the Canadiens are interested in pure futures like Corrado or something, Eller isn't going here.

Too bad because it's a nice fit because I wish the Canucks had one more center but hopefully we get that back in the Luongo deal.

i dont follow the hawks that much - is stalberg a legit top 6 forward? maybe we can trade booth for eller straight up... would net us almost 3m in cap space and gives us another defensively strong tweener that can hopefully shift up and down the lineup.

not sure if MTL would take booth but if they would, i would do that deal

Erskine just pulled a Keith-esque elbow on Simmonds and didn't get a call.

This is followed by Rinaldo decimating Hendricks in a fight off the faceoff.

30 teams, 6 top six slots available, top 180 scorers

http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_stat...=0+1+3+5+17+18+19+20+29+30+31+32+33+34#snip=f

higgins is 96th. stalberg is 46th.

obvious factors include zone starts, line mates, competition, team system, but it's not far off to say that stalberg and higgins can both be top six forwards against average or slightly below average competition in the nhl

edit: should be obvious from the post below and the category but this is 5 on 5

Nope.
If getting 43 points makes you a top 6 forward, then Higgins is a top 6 forward.

All 43-point seasons are not created equal.

Stalberg had 43 ES points and 0 PP points last year. He scored more ES points than Alex Ovechkin, Brad Richards, Daniel Sedin, Eric Staal, Patrick Marleau, and so on.

He's a top-6 forward who doesn't play the PP, but he's unquestionably a top-6 guy at ES. And a damned good one at that.

And no matter what the distribution, 43 points does make you a second line forward.

id suggest there is a theoretical 43 point, 28 minute TOI season for a player on an expansion team or something that doesn't make them equal to an average top six forwrad

Oh, absolutely.

A guy like Mark Bell in Chicago a few years back where he was scoring 45 points with first-line/first unit PP minutes would be the perfect example.

Basically a 3rd line guy putting up 2nd line numbers by getting first-line minutes. Case for that whole ABC line, and why their careers quickly went into the toilet after 'seeming' somewhat promising when their statlines looked OK at first glance.

Tampa is going HAM this year.

Lecavalier bounce back, status quo for Stamkos St Louis Purcell, and the emergence of Conacher.

If they want to go deep they should be in hard for Lu.

I dunno, I'd wait until at least Stalberg puts up another 40+ point season before declaring him a legit top six forward.

Anyone see Erskine's elbow on Simmonds? I'll say he gets three games for it.

I'm still not sold on this player. He clearly has skill, works hard and willing to play physical but the hockey IQ is iffy. I've seen him do some really dumb plays. Maybe he should be a winger? A little more straightforward. I'd rather continue to invest in Schroeder.

Lars is actually more of a winger that is converted to C because of his size. He's still weak on the draw too. No, I want him here to play wing mostly.

He's a project for sure. Nothing is certain as to how he will develop, or if he does. However, it is known that he is rapidly losing favour in MTL, so I want Gillis to be all over this. The team could use a winger like him as he offers size and versatility, even if he has downsides to his game right now.

Yeah, they're scoring at will right now but Lindback's only .911% with a 2.83 GAA. They're going to have to keep outscoring their woes. Imagine if they had a goaltender who could put up average stats, let alone Lu's.
