Colorado's goaltending situation went from "Vezina?" to "Will Joe make a deal?" very quickly. That team on paper looks like a contender, but they are almost out of the playoffs due to injuries and bad goaltending recently.

Yea, their only glaring weakness seems to be goaltending and their other numbers are insanely good despite the awful D injuries (including having the best xGA/60 in the entire NHL!)

I think they are benefiting somewhat from being in the actual weakest division in the NHL this year though as it it is certainly the weakest offensive division and if they were in one of the others, some of the offensive powerhouse team would be cutting through that ramshackle D in a way that the Kings/Yotes/Wild/Ducks just aren't capable of doing.

Hmm.. Contender-quality team... down to 13th in the league due to bad goaltending and injuries... This seems oddly familiar.

Heard MacKinnon, Makar and Byram all out. Remove Matty, Rielly and another dman from our lineup and watch us drop in the standings. I believe they had some COVID issues as well.

We all pretty much watched the same situation last year with the Leafs down the stretch before the shutdown. We really didnt have the depth we have now and Rielly/Muzzin/Ceci out on D while Mango and Soup out on the wings saw us tread water around .500 during the last couple months while having even worse goaltending (until we acquired Campbell). Avs will bounce back once they get some more bodies back on D and Mac is coming back from being out only a couple of games.

We actually faired pretty well when Matty/Muzzin/both goaltenders were out didn't we? Or were those at different times? Either way, COL's injuries have been ridiculous.

Last year with injuries to Rielly and Muzzin plus bad goaltending, we somehow stayed at the .500 mark which is a credit to Keefe.

I don't know if I'm being overly optimistic or if we are seeing the regression of the Bruins into mediocrity. But there are some signs.

Pasta is still a force but he gets injured a lot, no?

Bergeron is 35 now. He's losing speed and his body probably aches more than usual.

Marchand is still a filthy POS, cross checking players in the back of the head, but he's not influencing games like before

Chara is a Capital

Debrusk has fallen off the map and is now de scrub

Raask with lowest save % in his career

The team dropped from first in the league pts% to 8th.

They will probably make the playoffs this year and possibly win some rounds. But if they don't make big changes they won't make the playoffs next year.

Interesting offseason coming up for them.

All of Krejci (35), Rask (34), Halak (36) coming off the books, with Bergeron aged 36, but with $30m in capspace to spend.

Roster next year looks like:

* = RFA

Marchand 33 - Bergeron 36 - Pastrnak 25
Debrusk 25 ------ Coyle 30 ----- Ritchie* 26
Kase* 26 --------- Smith 32 ------ Bjork 25
Wagner 30 --- Frederic* 24 --- Studnicka 23
(Kuhlman 26)

Grzelcyk 28 --- McAvoy 24
Moore 31 ------- Carlo* 25
Zboril 25 -------- Clifton 26
(Lauzon 24 ----- Vakkanainen 23)

Booth* 24

Looking pretty sketchy, but $30m is a good amount of capspace to sign those RFA a day still leave a good $15-20m left over to sign goalies and a good skater or two.

They're definitely a lesser team. And will likely continue to worsen until they start hitting more on their prospects.

Bergeron has been getting more and more sheltered usage over the past couple seasons and it's just going to get worse from there
