Yeah, Voynov was suspended upon arrest. That hasn't happened with Kane (yet) so there's that. But ouch either way. Rough summer for off-ice stuff for the NHL, have to imagine they'll take a long look at their discipline policies.

As I pointed out in the Voynov thread when DA is involved in CA and the police are called someone is going to jail for the night.
Rape they investigate before ever booking someone.
And at the time when Voynov was suspended it was all speculation as to what did or didn't happen.
It could be weeks or months before he would ever even be booked if he is.
But the league will look bad in either case. They suspend him now and he isn't charged they jumped the gun. They don't do anything and he is charged they waited too long. This is exactly the slippery slope I mentioned in the very early days of Voynov that could happen.

It's a very serious thing he's accused of but I personally hope they don't suspend him unless there's some kind of material or bodily evidence. In Voynov's case they definitely had bodily evidence.

I figured a lot of it was due to different laws, different alleged crimes, different locales. Thanks. But totally agree, NHL set themselves up for criticism in events like this, Ribeiro, et. al. when they immediately suspended Voynov.

Players are paid throughout the summer and it makes the same statement.

Seems like players are not paid, but even if they were Voynov was suspended with Pay as would Kane be.
So what statement would the league be making as there is no arrest? shoot first ask later? Why tarnish the whole league's representation? Right now only those who follow the league closely know of this, as soon as the league suspends him it will be all over the news and shows like the view.
As much as I dislike P. Kane I hope they do not suspend him until arrested

If this were October, then you wonder if Kane would've been suspended with pay pending the investigation. It's August though, so there's nothing to suspend him from. If this thing is dragging on into the start of camp, and he's not suspended, then maybe the league is on that slope.

True but they could suspend him or make a statement saying that they (the NHL) are taking this matter very seriously and blah blah blah but even then IF the NHL were to do the right thing and suspend players who are accused of committing very serious crimes in the same manner that they did with Voynov then while in this situation it is another 3 weeks before Kane will be kept from joining his team it would send the message that there are standards that every player must abide to in order to remain an NHL player. If they are going to do what they did to Voynov then that should be the rule. They suspended Voynov before charges were filed and that is what they should be forced to do with every player who is accused of committing a serious crime. If the NHL wants to use the excuse that they are going to wait until a player is arrested then what happened with RoR? There is a duplicitous theme running in the NHL in regards to how they handle these sort of situations and that is a fact. RoR was not only arrested but it has been proven that he has broken the law (as reported he blew over the legal amount on test) and nothing has happened to him. The NHL should also have suspended RoR and while it not have had an immediate impact the suspension(s) could easily be held to carry over into the start of training camp which is a very few short weeks away. Do it immediately and let the player, his team and its supporters go through the same nonsense. Singling out one player and not another is crap to me and by waiting to do anything in each of these two matters the NHL unfortunately is sending the wrong message.

One more thought is that Heatley killed Snider his friend and team mate and there remains lots of unanswered questions regarding his actual sobriety in regards to his "accident" (ruled Heatley's fault and not an accident) and then RoR comes along and does what he does and the NHL does and says nothing. The two situations while different both resulted in very bad publicity for the NHL not to mention the impact that each situation has had on the lives of the people involved.

There is the reason that gets me, the NHL is being selective in how the handle these situations and while each of them are different one thing is constant and that is that they suspending Voynov prior to being charged and have allowed others to skate right on by without making any real comment.

Also it didn't happen at a bar in Evans, like reported. "It" (whatever that may be) started at a bar in downtown Buffalo.

I understand you don't force yourself on after they say no (clearly). But man, what do these girls think professional hockey players are bringing them home for? Cuddling?

They probably think they are going to do whatever they consent to, and yes they can change their minds.

The parallel you should be drawing is with Doughty. At least until Kane is charged.

Instead of Doughty, I am going to use Private Benjamin as my parallel

Where in principle I agree I don't think that is the right action for the league to take.
If they suspend any player accused of a crime what is going to happen when someone makes a false claim in the playoffs just to get someone out of the lineup. And don't think some crazy fan won't do it. They happen to be in the same place as the player have enough facts and come up with a story. And filing a false report is a crime it is very rarely ever filed.
The ROR case is a different matter. He was arrested so where is the outrage. I have my opinions. And those are around the fact the many adult beverage companies both have ties in the league and advertise for the league. So they don't want to offend them.
I do think the league needs to enforce the clause of the CBA about having criminal charges facing you they suspend you until such time as they are resolved. It mentions civil but that is even more suspect. Because even if someone brings a criminal complaint against you loses they could turn around a bring a civil case. And those can drag on for years. At least criminal cases do move faster even if it is slow.

Yep, ROR not being even reviewed--hell was it even acknowledged?--by the league pisses me off to no end.

Tsanuri, exactly and well said/explained. I guess my frustration comes from how the league is behaving.

Brad I have kept a close eye on things and I haven't seen any real official statement regarding ROr. If their position is that the regular season has yet to begin and as such they don't want to use their authority then they are acting shamefully. I guess as time will tell us how the NHL truly feels about it's own policies and really we haven't any actual say on any of these decisions or at least not so long as we love the sport so much that we will do what we have to do in order to see it played at its highest level.

Just what the Penguins needed another depth center...Matt Cullen 1 yr 800K
they are overloaded at forward...

Cullen hasn't been below 50% in faceoffs since 2008, 2014/15 - 54%

The #Pens have agreed to terms with veteran center Matt Cullen. Details: http://pens.pe/1gfpgyp

Morons.

Must be something in the water in Pennsylvania.

Maybe he thought they signed him for $800 million? I don't get why anyone would be up in arms over that signing though, then again, it's the internet, people tend to overreact to lots of minute things.

I think it's a good signing, I like Cullen he's been a fairly stable contributor and esp for defensive zone faceof's, will definitely help.

But they have too many forward, esp top 9 , somebody has to be moved...

C Crosby, Malkin, Bonino, Fehr, Cullen, Uher
RW Kessell, Bennett, Dupius, Hornqvist, Adams
LW Kunitz, Plotnikov, Perron, WIlson, LaPierre

THey can move Fehr and Bonino around but it still top heavy on forwards.
Maybe one of the pricier wingers will be moved to help the d.
