It'll be interesting to see how Pesce's season plays out as well. So far 9 games, 0 points, -5.
Yeah I think there are multiple things at play here.

1. As mentioned is the system and adjusting to playing in it being similar to adjusting to leaving it. I think both Skjei and Pesce will probably get better in their new systems given time.
2. Skjei and Pesce developed absolutely incredible chemistry with each other. I think both elevated each other because of that chemistry and that pairing was a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
3. Both Nashville and New Jersey have overall team issues that neither of these players are at fault for but it's impacting them and their production/lack thereof.
4. More the case for Pesce than Skjei but it will become a factor for both of them down the road, but they are both aging players on the wrong side of 30 now (well Pesce not for another few days but he's had the injury issues too). I think it was obvious in Pesce's last 2 seasons here that he wasn't the same player as his prime from 2018 to 2022 timeframe. Skjei became the better player in that pairing those last 2 seasons in my view.

Red Wings vs Penguins would be a good national televised contest 15 years ago. Not so much now. But I'm going to watch because I'm a sucker

Update: 0-0 end1. Some okay chances for both teams. Overall kinda boring 😴 poor guy for Pittsburgh (Lizzotte?) got hit in the face with a puck, but at least skated off into the locker room under his own power.

Damn Bedard has been in the NHL for barely a full season and he's already at 1000 points?

You could compile a great team with the current injury list (add Ericsson Ek to the list too):

Edit: I didn't know that this data source existed. A good site to track team's financial cost via injuries each year (chart since 08-09). Canes have been pretty fortunate except for a couple of bad years (Rangers have been incredibly fortunate):

Very strange, the main board has pretty much nothing but good things to say about Mike and Tripp in the broadcast teams thread.

Surely I thought Tripp was thought of as pretty annoying to non Canes fans.

Honestly, full credit to Mike. I was one of his more vocal critics over the last few years, but he's really grown into the role. He's not messing up names as often, he's following the play better. The only thing I think both he could improve upon is adding the time left in the period into his commentary more often. Since the broadcast is simulcast as the radio feed, it'd help those who are following along on the radio.

Since Tripp has sobered up he's been a lot less goofy.

I kinda miss his crazy antics but his mental health is more important than what a bunch of knuckle draggers on a forum think.
Might be less goofy but the stories are still great.

Basically it reminds me a lot of watching Phillies broadcasts with Kruk just ripping jokes the whole time. Makes the entire broadcast that much better, and Mike is really good with the banter when it gets going.
