The Whalers also had a 14 games winless streak in 91-92.

Damn that's crazy, that's the last time they made the playoffs too and IIRC were a goal away from upsetting future Stanley Cup champ Montreal in the first round, Adams semifinal or whatever it was called back then.

I guess though since the league had 22 teams it isn't that crazy.

The old system created oddities and I was embarrassed we made the playoffs with such a team.

But that series was ridiculous and that’s how you get a true Davey vs Goliath moment. They could’ve beaten them.

Wasn't the 1986 team the same way? They swept Quebec in round 1 and were also a goal away from the CFs right?

Well they were only four games over .500, but the Bruins were only 6 over and they were third in the division. Not quite as bad as 92.

The story over the years since has always been the Whalers could’ve won the cup if they scored that last goal. They took the Habs to game 7 OT, and the Habs only lost one game in each of the two remaining series. The Whale had given them the biggest difficulty by far. Roy and Lemieux’s reputations as being clutch playoff performers were created in that series.

Same could be said for our social media much of the time. I think it's just plain fun and thought it was funny.
I’ve noticed that after the bunch of offseason PR/marketing exits, that the Canes social media is now very tame and usually pretty quiet/no longer as creative.

As well, in-game is more muted than recent years past.

Mentioned the other day, a lot of it looks like it's being done with Canva templates, too. I didn't love the agency work last year but it now looks like they went in-house for most of the current creative.

Just based off what I've heard, it's a bit of a rocky situation within the organization.

We all heard stories about how Waddell would go around to different offices and say "Hello" to people, he'd plan outings for the staff, etc. Well, not really unsurprisingly, Tulsky isn't as much of a people person. He's much more business-oriented, and that, in turn, has caused the "behind the scenes" work to feel much colder and impersonal compared to when Waddell was running the show. A lot of people aren't happy with Tulsky as a boss, though I get the sense that it's not anything he's done, but rather what he's not doing that Waddell was.

Makes sense. Waddell was a people person, Tulsky is a phd analytical type. Hopefully Tulsky over time learns that the “people” side is important too.

Interesting info. Maybe I’m conflating things here but the part of Waddel’s job that would entail going around to offices and saying hello be the job that Doug Warf is doing now ? GM is roster building - President of the organization is the “people person”

It's like when organizations scratch their heads dumbfounded on why morale and productivity fall sharply when they clean house of those worthless and no value add jobs like Scrum Masters.

Probably. But do you expect rationality when it comes to office drama?

Are you a “scrum master” fan? That whole thing just strikes me as another useless gate keeping scam like PMP (which I had to get at one point) meant to send people for arduous and expensive training so that can add some more initials to the back of their work title

There's a difference between what a SM is supposed to do, what business try and turn the role into, and what the vast majority do.

A good SM legitimately makes everyone's life easier, helping eliminate a lot of the bullshit so they can focus on their jobs. A lot of it should be a conduit to push back on management and business to prevent burnout and really just being an advocate for the team members themselves.

Unfortunately, I've seen some companies really bastardize the role into being a micromanaging pain in the ass who does nothing but insert themselves into as many situations as possible to justify having a job. Oh, and it doesn't help that the vast, vast majority of "talent" in th SM community are glorified executive assistants who barely know how to SQL query but because they have been given a leadership role like to dictate to teams how to do their job.

I could rant on end about it. I am a SM myself, and I'm not about to say that all who are in the field are good at it. In fact I'd go so far as to say the majority aren't. But good ones can help clean up entire organizations in a hurry.
