Watched a replay of the Cats-Oilers game the other night. A sloppy game but quite entertaining.

An interesting note came up during one of the in-between periods in which they listed the current favorites to get to the SC Final. Oilers were top followed by the Canes.

FWIW, I just don't see it without a significant add by TDL. My current top tier is Toronto, Florida and Edmonton and Canes are in the second tier of Jersey, Dallas, Winnipeg and Minnesota.

Thoughts?
Why not? Other than FL, the rest on your list appear to be good but not outstanding most nights vs the better competition. It feels like FL toys with teams, at times, based on how they are feeling not out of fear.

I have been more impressed how CO has kept their head above water given all their challenges. If those get resolved, I think they could be very threatening.

Avs, dumb left out. Agree

Matt Rempe has played 22 nhl games.

He’s recorded 2 career points and 4 career ejections.
I appreciate last night’s Rempe hit for youth hockey.

He put multiple things you simply cannot do into one hit for easy video review at the junior level.

I was honestly thrown off when they said 5 minute elbowing major because the board was that obvious. But so was the elbow.

The elbow was pretty light in terms of elbows. It’s the whole hitting from behind straight into the numbers part that should be the call. It’s irrelevant, and it’s easier to make those kinds of comments the next day when looking at it. He deserves to get suspended due to multiple infractions. If this was his first I’d wonder how serious this one would be viewed.

The guy has been too much of a problem for the league to ignore. I’d expect they’ll give him a several-game suspension this time, given he was just suspended a few months ago for a similar headshot on Siegenthaler. Apparently with the in-person hearing it can be 6+ games this time. That basically starts the Raffi Torres Countdown where they systematically work him out of the league with suspensions so long that nobody will sign him.

It's largely because of his height. But the elbow starts at the back of the neck and goes up as he makes contact. Elbows to the cervical spine are not something we've needed to discuss but I think we can all agree are a bad thing.

If you're that tall the onus is on you to keep your elbows further down to avoid that type of contact.

It’s a light elbow regardless of location. I agree it’s 100% on him and he deserves it overall. This just wasn’t the worst hit I’ve seen from him, and at this point I do think there’s some gamesmanship going on with anyone he touches. That’s on him to take the edge off….which he really doesn’t because he doesn’t know how to control himself. He’s going to get run out of the league soon, because everyone makes sure they show their numbers when he’s around and he doesn’t know how to stop when they’re there.

His first suspension was 4 games I think so 6 is probably a good guess for a starting number here.

Askarov has had a real good 3 game run since call up. Sharks building a good squad.

.927 overall…stopped 39-42 against oilers today but lost.

The Rangers are getting stomped in New Jersey. The score doesn't reflect the play on the ice. I thought the last matchup was the bottom. Evidently, it was not.

I don't know how to feel about them. On one hand, they feel like a sleeping giant. They're too talented to play this poorly. Elite teams facing adversity isn't unprecedented. They can bounce off of it and be a force going into the playoffs.

On the other hand, that's a veteran forward core. Only Lafreniere is under the age of 30. Maybe the bottom just fell out for a couple of those guys and this is what they are now.

I remember the Oilers last season were brutal early and they made it all the way back. I know they had started turning it around by now and of course there’s two guys there that can turn a team around but it feels too early to say the Rags are toast this year. I’m not ready to say they’re this bad. 5 pts out of a wildcard and we’re not at the half way mark. One hot streak and they’re in the playoff mix. One hot streak and then normal play the rest of the way and this is all forgotten.

They’re in an interesting spot. They could turn it all around and it wouldn’t be surprising. They could fire everyone and tank the rest of the year and it wouldn’t be surprising.

Noesen tied for 10th in the NHL with 17 goals. I love it for him as he worked his ass off and changed his game to get where he is, just hate that it is benefitting NJ.

NJ is a force this year. Goaltending and defense has been their pitfall, but with the addition of Markstrom and Pesce, as well as a step forward from Luke Hughes, they are going to be a tough out.
