Svech and Necas (both on their strong sides mysteriously),

This is the sort of thing that has me pulling my hair out by April. Triggermen playing their strong side in a system that’s designed for one-timers. As soon as they move to that side, you can go ahead and head to the restroom because nothing’s gonna happen.

I can't tell if this is team or player-elected arbitration so unsure if he would still be an OS candidate.

Edit: looks like it's player-elected so no longer OS eligible if I understand the rules correctly.

Terry's a weird case because his 2022 was such an aberration.

If I'm the arbitrator I'm looking squarely at William Karlsson as the comparable. 2017-2019 his goalscoring looks near identical to Terry, then in 2019 he signs 8x$5.9M. Adjust slightly for age, adjust for cap inflation, that puts Terry around $6.3M or so. Midpoint of their proposals is $6.25M. Boom, done, time for an early happy hour. This arbitrator stuff is easy.

You understand correctly, but there's the additional thing that the deadline for club electing a salary arbitration is very early in the off-season (out of necessity because then they don't have to tender the QO to keep the player's rights) and the window for offersheeting the player expires on July 5th.

12.3 (a)(iv) A Player subject to a Club-elected salary arbitration pursuant to this
Section 12.3(a) shall remain eligible to negotiate and sign an Offer Sheet
with any other Club pursuant to Section 10.3 of this Agreement by no later
than 5:00 p.m. New York time on July 5 immediately following the Club's
election of salary arbitration. For further clarity, if a Club has elected
salary arbitration on a Player pursuant to this Section 12.3(a), and such
Player signs an Offer Sheet by no later than 5:00 p.m. New York time on
July 5 immediately following the Club's election of salary arbitration, the
Club's rights under this Section 12.3 shall be void ab initio and the Club's
rights shall instead be governed by Section 10.3 of this Agreement.
12.4 Notice of Club Election.
(a) A Club electing salary arbitration pursuant to Section 12.3(a) above must do so by
making a written request, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereto, utilizing the form attached hereto
as Exhibit 22, to the parties listed in Section (c) below by not later than 5:00 p.m. New York time
on the later of June 15 or 48 hours after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Finals in the League
Year prior to the League Year for which the Club seeks to determine a Player's Paragraph 1
Salary by salary arbitration.

Random bit of trivia: in 2017 the Carolina Hurricanes traded a 2017 fifth rounder to Vegas in exchange for Vegas agreeing to not take Lee Stempniak. They instead took Connor Brickley.

Connor Brickley ended up played more NHL games (58) than Lee Stempniak (39) since 2017, though at this point both are out of the NHL/hockey entirely.

Vegas used that 5th rounder (#142) on Jack Dugan who most recently was traded from NJ to the Canes.

Funnily enough also Zach Hayes was acquired to Canes from Vegas who had signed him as undrafted player.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WERE SO UP IN ARMS WHEN WE TRADED FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS FOR PACIORETTY BUT NOT WHEN WE TRADED HIM FOR HAYES
