Kudos to the NHL featuring two non-playoff teams, including probably the worst team in the NHL in their feature game.

The Blackhawks look like a minor league team at a fantasy camp. They’re getting completely outclassed by a mediocre at best team to begin with.
Is Connor Bedard even playing in this game? Serious question. haven't noticed.

Smashing pumpkins is about the only thing Chicago fans got to cheer for.

Gee camera crew, I know its snowing. Too much to clean your lens once in awhile. NHL is so amateur at this stuff.

Oh Hawks scored. Theres something. Hall has been noticeable. Only Hawk that looks any good.

Remember when part of the sell of a new arena would be that Edmonton would be able to host the draft or all-star game?

10 years in and nada

Haven't hosted a draft in 30 years. Haven't hosted an all-star game in 35+

But hey, at least we got to see Tampa win the Stanley Cup in an empty building during covid.

Patrick is just baiting Lou to fire him at this point

Roy has a rep of being a massive asshole, wouldn't be surprised if he did that to humiliate his own players. Have to say, it worked like a charm. Nelson/Horvat floating up to the redline and letting their teammates get outmanned before possession is established in a 5 vs 5 situation with no goaltender in net was pretty damn egregious

Just hope when Sorokin is demanding a trade from that gong show, Oilers are first in line to put in an offer

I think you meant to say Sorokin, but yeah I wouldn't say no to that.

The NHL is going to go to a decentralized draft so it looks like that is out for the near future.

Aren't they still going to have the draft at a venue with fans, though, just that the teams won't travel there with all their personnel? Or did I misread that somewhere?
TO my knowledge they still do not know if or how fans will be involved. But even if there are fans I suspect that the feeling will be very different. It would be more like a watch party than a live event.

Its always felt that way to me anyway. Could never really understand the appeal of watching a draft either in person or on TV. Just a bunch of GM's owners coming up in front of a microphone and the most obvious player selections being there, but no hockey being played...hehe. I just don't get the corrolary stuff. No interest to me. Drop the puck and I'm there watching, but all the other stuff and dressing room drama shows and televised drafts etc, forget it. I do watch elections intently though. heh

I consume the draft information post draft, in print, and spend 1/10 the time obtaining the same info as watching draft for several hours in real time.

NHL once again leaking into a professionality problem. Would be interesting to look at all the games played in the last week or two and the results are almost random. Of course we freaked out here with Oilers losing out to the Ducks but its almost been par for the course, or around half the time of teams favored, losing, approaching and during the holiday season. The games rendered almost unwatchable. I wonder if Prime is wondering too as almost all of their games have been garbage. Among the poorest games played. This of course influencing ratings inevitably because if most games are dreck, and just poor viewing and poorly contested then viewers just find something other to do or watch.

Yesterday it got to the point of even an Outdoor classic being almost unwatchable. Changed the channel several times. The game was boring, and concluded, obvious who was going to win and Connor Bedard was mostly invisible. Anybody buying the "next one" junk would have again been dissuaded with how little Bedard actually shows in a game. He would arguably be the marquee player in the game and of course for the homeside and if you brought your kid to this game you'd have to buy a program to know which player Bedard was because he was unnoticeable. I don't think he made one play in all the time I did watch that stood out. This kind of thing is a problem for the NHL. Nothing amazing about the game, routine plays, routine goals, very little going on in EV play. You have to really love the game to appreciate any of this. The game was poorly played and uneventful. In a word, boring.

I would have liked to boo Calgary, Vancouver, Vegas, Toronto etc selections in person at one point, but oh well
