Around the League, 2024-25

One more example of why this league can be so frustrating and feel like NHL officiating is WWE caliber.

In the 3rd period of a blowout game a couple nights ago, career-long POS Radko Gudas goes after a 5'10" 172 lbs rookie, knocking him into the net, gloved punches to the face.

The ref watching the whole thing gives them both roughing minors.

I have no particular feelings for the Flyers (other than it's fun watching any team coached by Torts lose) or Mitchkov, but this is as they say, bush league.

100% agree. This guy enjoys these blind side attempts to maim.

Saad's already made a bunch of money, though. He should have a bit of a bank roll to fall back on that Zadina didn't have. I'm betting he signs a minimum deal with a contender for the rest of this season, then latches on with a contender for a million bucks over the summer.

Does he have to pass through waivers to sign with a new team this year, or is he a straight up UFA with no contingencies?

4.5mil is A LOT to give up. That's almost a 1/10 of the money he's made so far. There's also no guarantee he'll be signed (he probably will), but it's still a huge gamble.

It is a lot, but he's 32? From everything I've read he seems pretty confident he'll catch on somewhere this year as long as he doesn't have that $4,5m attached to him. He goes somewhere, does well at all, he'll get signed next year. I mean, look how long the corpse of Corey Perry has hung around.

NHL salary cap projections are out.. and the Wings look to be in phenomenal shape thanks to the recent extensions of the core.

95.5 next year to 104 to 113.5 in 3 years.... the cap space to supplement the rookie deals is going to make for lots of dollars available to some star players.
$14m to rantanen coming right up!

For reference, Raymond's cap number would be $8.76M if it were signed this summer using the same percentage and $9.54M if it were signed the summer of 2026.

Great work getting deals done so far, and it'll be interesting what happens at the deadline and in the off season.

Illitch.

Larkin, Seider and Raymond contracts are gold now. Only issue might be trying to keep everybody under there numbers. It just won't be feasible during the entire length of those deals.

Definitely not, but for the right players.. you make the expection and I doubt Larkin, Ray or Mo are worried if they acquire a superstar to play along side them who makes a few more million.

2026 has the likes of McDavid, Eichel, Kaprizov, Makar, Connor and Kempe available, should they all choose to not extend between now and then. I am probably missing a few nice names too.

And we have Chia, Tank, Gus, Talbot, Veleno and Holl all falling off the roster that offseason.

Of course, some of our young guys will needed raises, particularly Edvinsson come that offseason.

Could be a lot of fun intrigrating some stars with our burgeoning young core. Just dreaming down the road for now.......
