Around the League 2024-25 season

Looking at the TOI 3rd and 4th lines are playing about the same minuts. Not sure how the rangers look at it, but to me a line with Rempe on it is the 4th line.

Dont know if hes gonna last long there. He needs to be handled differently and put in a specific situation. Thats a coach and team on the ropes with no time for it. He may be better off playing in Europe anyway.

Todd McClellan new coach of the NYR? I mean, I was told only LA would put a sniper on the 4th line......
I mean, Lafreniére has been underwhelming as a first overall and they basically gave away their second overall pick in Kakko.

The Rangers haven't made very good decisions with developing forwards either.

Im interested to see how he's handled. They will give him a honeymoon since he hasnt played in over a year, so I dont expect a quick demotion... here at the half way point, the Rangers are 4 points out of 8th in the conference.. so it may go either way. If it ends up being a tank/retool he could be kept around to see if he fits a role they need.

PLDud had 2 goals last night including game winner in OT. They actually start him in OT.

He's right back to where he's been most of his career, maybe it's surprising with how awful he was with the Kings, but maybe not, sometimes guys just have bad years or are bad fits.

He's a big guy, with a pretty high skill level, questionable hockey IQ and questionable motor/compete level, who was way overdrafted but has been able to still be a 60-65 point second liner.

I just never saw it with Lafreniere, at no point in his career has he ever resembled the type of player you'd expect from a #1 OA pick. I used to get into it with Rangers fans about this, I was told it was to soon and "He's just a kid" but even teenage difference makers usually show something. As @Sol always points out about Kopitar's first game vs Anaheim, I remember Kane's rookie year in Chicago he came out guns blazing that first month. The good picks in the Top 5 of drafts should for the most part be development proof. I am not saying you can't blame development or deployment completely, but in the case of the Kings and Rangers Top 5 picks, it's just way more likely that the teams (and to be fair the scouting community as a whole) were just wrong on what types of players they were going to be.

And just to add to this post, I was going to post this the night of but the site was down. I went to the Milwaukee-Manitoba game on Wednesday night with my kid, and what has become of JAD is incredible (in a bad way), this guy made the Kings out of camp as a 19 year-old, and then during the Covid year showed some potential to be something similar to what Turcotte is right now, and here he is at 25 playing a bottom line role and struggling to do that in the AHL. I wasn't even aware he had left the Nashville organization and was picked up by the Jets. I know it's a fine line for a lot of these guys, but this has sadly been quite the fall for a guy many of us had high hopes for.

Looks like the Kings are slated to play the oilers in the playoffs again. Don’t see how the Kings win with the PP being as bad as it is and the Kings historic inability to defend against their PP. Might be a sweep if they don’t figure out to put a guy on draisaitl during the PP at all times.

April 14th would be a good day for Anderson to get payback on McDavid, but we know it will never happen. Yes, I'm still bitter about that.

Anderson funnily enough has lost all of his bite since McDavid pushed his shit in. Anderson is too soft and since he hasn’t done anything about that hit then he never will.

The PK regular season was fine heading into the playoffs last season, but got utterly raped during the series under Hiller - so it was same as the old boss.

The playoffs are so different than regular season because you are playing a single team repeatedly.. its completely different strategy - its very much like war, you focus on one opponent and tailor your approach to them vs just play your system youve been doing all season. Todd obviously wasnt able to do that. Hiller failed last season spectacularly but it was his first go and he has shown an ability to adjust. So, I guess there is small glimmer of hope.

I have zero hope in regards to the PK. They have shown with emphatic evidence that they cannot solve the Oilers PP. The PK after Todd got canned was good heading into the playoffs. Came playoffs the PK was absolutely destroyed despite the fact they were training heavily for it with Hiller. The Oilers PP was nearly 50 percent. They scored 9 goals on the PP in 5 games… you can’t even hope to win games like that. You can dominate a 5v5 then one stupid penalty and they’re right in it. It’s just not feasible.

Year prior? Oilers PP against the Kings was 56%.. 9 goals in 16 PPs. Absolutely unbelievable.

Woodcraft and Knoblach totally outcoached Koala/HIller in all 3 series vs EDM. didnt learn a thing from years prior.. like how about take away Drai's one timer? It was sad watching history repeat itself 3 years in a row.

23-24 Oilers PO PP% Verse:
Kings 45%
Canucks 30%
Starts 36%
Panthers 12%

22-23 Oilers PO PP% Verse:
Kings 56%
Knights 40%

21-22 Oilers PO PP% Verse:
Kings 37%
Flames 28%
Avs 18%

Panthers and Avalanche are the only teams that have been able to shutdown the Oilers PP.

But Kings sure have been the worst.

All the talk about playing Edmonton in the playoffs is missing a big factor being confidence.
The first year they went to 7 games they were playing with house money and they were just going for it. Skinner is not much better than Smith so the freebie goals will come.
Last year it was like they knew they were going to lose in the lockerroom before the games. I knew from my couch they were going to lose before the games. They just didnt have it.
If they are a real tight group going into it with the f*** you attitude I think they can do it this year. If Hiller wants them to play like the inferior team and turtle then they will lose and Draisaitl will feast in his spot on the powerplay again.
