i think there's a place for all kinds

remember palhares rolling around the UFC for the better part of a decade shredding ACLs? hell he ended his own career by being unable to control it. the threat of unhinged violence is entertaining though. i hated the piece of shit but i'll be damned if i wasn't watching it go down. i can tell you what i wasn't watching: jon fitch hugging guys to death on the mat for 25 minutes a night

doesn't even take much in the modern NHL, hell crypto kind of explodes for "normal" hits because we never f***in see em happen after years of drive-by stick waving "get back fast" "safety first" teams

Oh yah, forgot that we should be surprised that 100-point/season coach knows how to win games.
You are aware that the Kings/Blake FIRED him right? Not the fans. It was Blake. Even though they still owed him lots of money. So the team/FO thought he wasn't doing his job and needed to be replaced (again, not the fans....NOT this board).

It hasn’t sunk in for Axl that koala was mediocre coach. He still has Todd’s custom poster over his headboard.

The simplest explanation would be if @Axl Rhoadz was related to Koala or a family friend... I believe I asked him that several years ago, and he said he was.. not sure if we was kidding or not, but maybe he can clarify it now.

Thing is McLellan is historically a great regular season coach and this should not come as a surprise.

Call me when/if Detroit wins a round or doesn't lose it while being up 3-1 or 3-2.

You guys wouldn't understand, but I actually belive in showing respect to the people involved in this organization, during the good times and the bad. I know this is only a message board and everyone thinks they can say whatever they want (knowing damn well you'd never even think to if you were face to face with that person), but I don't believe in that.

Todd did good things for this team during a time when this team should have been much worse. I for one, appreciate that - I hope he finds success in DET and on.

So you are not related to him or a friend?

Every forum has some percentage of arm chair GMs that like to critique the org.. you dont fall into that category so you dont get it. If I was to meet Koala id be very respectful.. I buy him a beer and talk hockey with him if he was into it. But the critique comes as fan of the team - not so much as against Todd the person.. he happened to be in a leadership role where some of his personnel decisions and in game decisions were highly suspect.. like every single sports forum does when their HC or GM does something that seems crazy.

When you're in the arena, the crowd gets loudest during a fight. Even the suggestion of one; players jawing back and forth, shoving, cheap shots ect. gets the crowd really excited.

Now that stuff is mostly gone and the live experience has suffered because of it.

That said, I don't understand the people who want to bring that stuff back. You want to see a 24 year old get elbowed in the head and suffer quality of life issues for your entertainment? Gross.
I don't need to see 24 year olds elbowed in the head, but I also don't like living in a world where Toyota had to retire the "Toyota Tundra Tough Hit of the Game" because the Kings stopped giving them a hit worthy to be highlighted.

I htink it goes like this.. If you are a fan of the team and buy tickets, broadcast viewing rights and merch, you've earned the right to criticize the org esp the guy making 5 mil who isnt getting it done.. clearly he got fired for reason, so you can say he gets you 100 point season, but the goal is to win cups and he was not moving the needle forward. He lacked vision and leadership to do it.

Some people also need to join us in the 21st century.

In 1999, the final year before the loser point was added, there were three teams that achieved 100 points.
In 2023 with the loser point + shootouts when Todd had his magical 100 point season, the Kings were one of 13 teams to reach 100 points, including the Seattle Kraken in their second year in the league. This year there are as of now again 13 teams on a 100 point pace.

But not surprising to see the same people who think losing in round 1 every year is a huge accomplishment also think 100 points means anything in 2025.

Sure and it eventually cost him his job - as it usually happens in pro sports, coach goes first.

However, he also catapulted this team to a playoff spot and a 7-game series with EDM in a season where everyone predicted the team to be in the draft lottery.

Look at the Darryl Sutter saga - when he got canned, it was TIME. In your words, he was not 'moving the needle forward', but nobody has a bad thing to say about him because he won two cups.

But since Todd DID NOT win cups, some people here think it's ok to say things like, 'Todd can suck my ****'.

It's wild....

I think we, as fans, get pretty passionate in our assessment where we get carried away in our frustration.

I actually like TMac. I don't like certain components of his tenure - namely the first-round exits, struggles to adjust in big moments, and how some youth was deployed. I don't think that's all on him though, and I'd love to talk hockey with him and thank him for his efforts.

A coach like Willie D? I'd be polite, but I wouldn't get excited about trying to get any particular insight from him.

But it's possible to be critical of things you love and/or respect. We all spend our time on this forum, because we love the Kings. And our criticisms are grounded in history and perceptions (real and imaginary).

Why is that wild? Have you ever been out in the world? Have you ever been in a locker room? Someone saying that on here is a fart in the wind compared to the realities of the world.
Drew Doughty himself screamed suck my d*** to an entire Calgary arena.
You are insanely sensitive with all things Todd that its weird.

That's what Todd is great at doing -- taking some talent and getting the best out of them over the course of the season. If your goal is to change the loser mentality of the team or organization, then he's a great guy to go with.

Some fans just want to win more often than they lose and get to the playoffs -- even if they are not a title contender and they lose annually in the first round. That's preferrable to those fans over having a losing season.

Some fans want to win a title. They accept that in order to do so, you need lots of elite talent and thus will likely need to suffer thru some bad years for top draft picks (because simply via trades or drafting super well consistently is extremely rare). Then you can be in the cup hunt for several years...and start the cycle over rebuilding. It's fun to rebuild for those fans -- and you grow with the young guys as fans.

There is nothing WRONG about either side. Each are valid. I'm not sure why you can't see that and you consistently seem to go ape-shet whenever those type of fans voice their opinions and comments. It's weird. It's like you've never encountered the internet before. People have different opinions -- that's ok. This place is for expressing those different opinions and debating, discussions, etc. It's ok to disagree. It's ok to criticize. It's ok to be wrong. Not everyone is exactly like you and your opinions/thoughts.

You mean like when he called me Kaliyev and I called him Avery?

All that time in solitary confinement broke you.

Bro they know about the secret network conspiracy.

Watch out they get all buddy buddy til you hit that nerve that makes them run for the bottle and lash back at you and PM their network buddies!

These guys are way too disrespectful to members of the organization that don't participate and have a voice here and they pile on daily.

They get so mad when someone gives it right back to them.

They try to dissuade you from using this board like a chimpanzee poking at insects with a stick.

They eventually try to boycott you but they don't control the board as they seek to.

So you interact with different people who are usually much more reasonable.

That's why I love it here.

@Herby I feel like the Zmolek mentioned was a direct shot at me. How dare you. You did list those playoff stats but didn't touch on the era when the Kings finally made the playoffs and then had the great three year run. While some of it has to do with the best era in Kings history, I do feel like there was a nice sweet spot there in the late 2000's through 2016 or so where you didn't have as many Rob Ray types--but you had more of them than now--but the game was still nastier than today and you didn't get so much clutch and grab. I mean, I think Brown got a diving minor when Mike Smith took the axe to the back of his leg. That's a match and a suspension today.

Haha, of course not, my friend. I had actually forgotten you were huge Zmolek fan. I actually walked right by him on the concourse at the NCAA regionals last year, he certainly has a face that is hard to forget, even nearly 3 decades after his last game as a King.

But to me guys like Zmolek and Ludwig first came to mind with that era of hockey, Zmo was Mr. Clutch and Grab and Ludwig with his goalie pads, it was no shock that it was impossible to score in the mid to late 90's.

It’s very likely she/he is either a past romantic partner or related. These rapid fire posts about how great Todd was when the Kings were running 1-3-1 down 2 goals in the 3rd period of an elimination game is truly deranged. Todd sucked as a coach and was a huge reason why the Kings never had an identity for so long while he was coaching. Todd is just another basic ass coach who could never adapt and always got outcoached in the playoffs. The Wings have won 5 games now and people are climaxing.
