Lots to unpack in that deal.

Why do the Ducks need another defenseman? They already had three veteran defensemen and not enough room for all their kids who are all around the same stage of the developmental cycle. And if you do add one, why would you add something nearly identical to Gudas? Why not weaponize your cap space?

The Rags aren't shy, they are making bold moves and I would speculate Zibanejad is next. This move has potential to be a big factor in the East. Imagine being a reasonable threat to come out of the East, hitting a rough patch but being able to quickly jettison a problem and create enough space to add a difference maker.

I think Verbeek wants to build a certain type of team, a team that will probably have a lot of prime Trouba type players (not specific to position) and he wants some of Trouba to rub off on some of his younger players.

The contract is off the books after next season, the same time they will probably have to give big $$ to at least one of Carlsson and Gauthier.
OK there is a logic in that. Seems redundant with Gudas there.. Trouba was also a captain - might create some leadership conflict. I just dont see why an org would want to spend approx 14m (this season + next) for leadership they already have. I dont see the value.

I think the most entertaining thing would be an LA/Anaheim dirty player arms race

Lemieux just got put on unconditional waivers, let's get some literal teeth ready
Lemieux was my fav King for the parts of three seasons he played here.

He's a super nice guy also - not sure what the problem is. Quick was a fan and defended him during the whole biting incident.

Verbeek was like goudas and trouba but a much better hockey player. They didnt call verbeek the little ball of hate for nothin.
I thought his aquisition of alex killorn was an exellent one. We need guys like killorn- remember when he put alec martinez on dizzy street?

They overpaid massively for Killorn and for too many years. Wed have had a meltdown on here with that contract for a guy with so many miles.

Simply that killorn is a better player than turcotte and that nepotisim or the old boys club plays a huge part on the kings.

Ok..
I see.
On a different note Dubois looks real good in this first period. Didnt play like this even one game last year.

Forgot about that re Verbeek. Trouba is a certified asshole that doesnt mind watching a fellow player have to heal for 4 to 6 months... and there isnt much else he does. I guess injuring your competition is a strategy of some sorts.

I fully expect the Ducks to eat half of Trouba's salary for 2 years and make him trade bait at the deadline. They can probably get back a 1st or 2nd, or a decent prospect.

Kings are looking solid despite being worse on paper compared to last season. Problem is they still are an underdog in the first round whatever the matchup.

I think this season is ripe for a blunder trade at the deadline. Something like Danault and Spence for Malkin and Petersson.

And now Lizotte just scored against the Rangers. Feels like the universe is willing Blake into his finally fatal blunder moment.

Reading between the lines I’m guessing it’s either an opportunity in Europe or he’s retiring from playing. I’m basing that on him asking to be released from his contract to pursue ‘other opportunities’.

Instead they just turned right around and flushed it all on their goalie. Oof.

I haven’t paid too much attention. Why are people shittinh on trouba ?
Playing like garbage at 8 mil for this year and next. He’s tough and blows people up but is (apparently) a liability in every other facet. Rangers want to go for it now.
