Lots to unpack in that deal.
Why do the Ducks need another defenseman? They already had three veteran defensemen and not enough room for all their kids who are all around the same stage of the developmental cycle. And if you do add one, why would you add something nearly identical to Gudas? Why not weaponize your cap space?
The Rags aren't shy, they are making bold moves and I would speculate Zibanejad is next. This move has potential to be a big factor in the East. Imagine being a reasonable threat to come out of the East, hitting a rough patch but being able to quickly jettison a problem and create enough space to add a difference maker.
