If mates are not going to get assists for Kreider he isn't going to give assists to them.

It's obvious that owners wanted afternoon starts to avoid college football playoffs.
Huh?
Next playoff game is the 9th and 10th. Not sure there’s a connection there let alone an obvious one.

No, I wasn't talking about that particular game, but the January schedule in general. Owners want to avoid football so they tried to move as many games to the afternoon timeslots as possible.

Keefe is leading the Devils off a cliff while they were celebrating their Cup win. Lost to SJ, lost 4 in a row
They were 6-1 right before that, are firmly in a playoff spot, and are still pacing for 19 more points than last year. Their underlying metrics went from 16th to best in the league. Don't think a rough few games qualifies as "leading them off a cliff".

0 points in 4 games against a struggling Carolina, Anaheim, LA, and SJ isn't promising.

Sure they have more points than last year after trading their 1st round pick for a goalie, but they're pacing for less than 2 years ago.

A 4 game losing streak following a great stretch is hardly the end of the world. They've seen massive improvements in their pace and underlying play this year, are firmly in a playoff spot, and are on pace for their 2nd best finish of the past 13 years. "Leading them off a cliff". :laugh:

Don't worry, there's still lots of room to go downhill. Losing to SJ to lose their 4th in a row is just the start.

They're lucky the Rangers imploded or they'd be in a wildcard spot right now. The Rangers are the perfect example of a team that started the season at the top of the division and it went from 'just a losing streak' to spiraling out of control. NJ is propped up by playing more games than everyone else making their total points look more impressive than they are.

New Jersey is 5th in the conference by point percentage. They've been nothing like the Rangers this year. You're way off.

I don't get why you think NJ's losing streak is over. It's not. They just lost to SJ tonight and are on a 4 game regulation losing streak. Until they turn it around, they're on a losing streak. They started red hot and were 1st in the league. Now they're 5th in the conference.

You're just assuming they turn it around. The Rangers did not. It's a tale of what can happen when you keep losing. The Leafs haven't lost 4 in a row all season for reference.

It's not like I've seen a lot of Logan Thompson play.

But that's not the first time I've seen him make a boneheaded move like that. It could just be coincidence he does something stupid whenever I'm watching. More likely is that it happens a lot more often than it should.

He's lucky the rest of the team bailed him out.

I'm not sure where everyone is getting the Leafs play a low event hockey style from. Just watching them should tell you they don't. The fact they are 8th in the league for SA/GP and 15th in the league for SF/GP backs up the eye test.

A couple shots more either way and they'd be the league leader in both categories.

I'm gonna go with Carbery for coach of the year. Both him and Hynes have done more with less than Keefe has. I expect all three to be nominated but only one can win it.

The coach with Logan Thompson as goalie gets my vote.

The Leafs are going to finish first overall, so Carbery will have to overcome that to beat Berube for the award.

I think Berube has done a good job.

But usually the Jack Adams goes to a coach who takes his team from the bottom of the league to making the playoffs. I think the voting comes after the second round so playoffs results are likely a factor as well. I could be wrong but I don't think a coaching swap on a good team like the Leafs is a consideration in voting really.

The team was already good before the coach got there.

Not diminishing Ovechkin, but the team didn't fall to earth when he was on IR.
the team didn't fall, but production dropped:
WSH first 18 games with Ovi:
GF=4.33; #1 in the league
WSH next 16 games w/o Ovi:
GF=2.94; #18 in the league
WSH next 5 games with Ovi:
GF=4.00; #2 in the league

I think the voting is done before the season ends (although i could certainly be wrong about that), but I don't disagree with your premise. It's obviously hard to argue with the job Carbery has done so far this season. Pretty damn impressive.
