Sorry to pick on you here, Papa, but I don't really understand why Leaf fans are surprised that Keefe knows how to do a defensive system. That was the most obvious change when he took over from shit brains.. Err, Babcock. The defensive game of the team changed dramatically for the better.

He has his flaws, for sure, and moving on was the right choice, but he has some positives too.
Didn't the Devils trade for a goalie?

Wasn't that their biggest issue last year. Everyone was touting them as the next best thing before the season started, but they had no one between the pipes.

26th. in GA per game to 5th..

A goaltender doesn't just stop goals, he gives confidence, and give the team permission to score.

12th. goals per game to 7th.

3 NY state teams combined to score 1 goal last night while allowing 12.

All 3 are in a freefall and really have no way out. Except the Rangers. Shesterkin can get red hot and steal some games

Their goaltending has been better than last year, but nothing spectacular. They're currently 11th in the league in goaltending.
The team in front did however go from the 24th best defensive team last year to the 3rd best this year.

Yes and they were missing a couple of key players most of the year and the young team couldn’t overcome adversity. They were good the previous year.

Shesterkin can only bail out his team for so long. They bleed chances and don't seem to play with any structure

They can get out, but their ceiling is very limited

doesn't look like minnesota is going to do us any favors tonight

can't get the stupid panthers off our asses
The Leafs will separate from Florida by the end of this month/early January because of how soft the leafs' schedule is. Then it will be a question of whether they can hold that lead the rest of the season. It will also be interesting to see how the wild card positions develop.

Interesting since you had already said Florida doesn't care anout the regular season and they promptly have gone 8-2-1. Whay happened to the Leafs double diget division win?

I do believe you are correct about the Leafs having a shot this year to win the division, and possibly the East, but it is going to be a fight.

Especially if they continue to have injury issues.

In other news, Murray with a shutout last night. Wonder if he makes his way up for Sat nights game

I continue to believe that both of these points are correct. Let the season play out. I think Florida will drop off.

I just don't see it. Unless the injury bug hits them.

TB will continue to play well too. Guentzel was a good trade off fo.r Stamkos

Based on the first ~30 games, the Atlantic certainly seems to have 3 tiers

Toronto, Florida, Tampa
Boston, Ottawa
Detroit, Buffalo, Montreal

Just noticed that 3 of the top 4 PK teams are quite bad, which I thought was interesting:

1. Preds
2. Rangers
4. Hawks

The only other team over 85% is Carolina
We are 7th at 82.7%
