Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

With the news recently coming out that Ovechkin won’t seek another contract after next season and will join Dynamo of the KHL instead, I’ve started wondering how many years does everyone think Crosby will play before he ultimately retires.

He is currently signed for another 2, his 38 and 39 year old seasons. So at least 2.

Ive just been thinking about his career points and how much more one could realistically expect him to add before he hangs them up.

I don’t think catching Jagr at #2 in all time points is out of the question but he’ll need to play at least 1 more season beyond what he’s currently signed for and remain productive (wouldn’t bet against him staying point per game)

Hell, as unlikely as this is, if he played 5 more seasons (until 42), and averaged 65 points per season, he could still get to 2000. I fully don’t expect that though.

Another couple seasons at ~90 points would go a long way towards either accomplishment, but we’ll see what happens.

Crosby is a physical specimen that he could play well into his 40s like Chara and Tom Brady did, and still be quite effective. Will he want to is another question, because it'll boil down to him being one to play for a single franchise his whole career and be stuck on a wallowing/rebuilding Penguins team, or he decides to find a contender to try and get his name on the Cup for a fourth time.

He certainly has incentive to stick around to become the second league point scorer of all time.

It's sad thinking about how Crosby and Ovechkin are nearing the end of their careers. It's as if they entered the league as 18-year fresh-faced kids yesterday. How time flies... 😢

The question is would he wants to stay with the Pens?
I can see him want to retire as a Pens but between now and then, would he wants to stay there.
EK is playing for his own.
Letang and Malkin just don’t have it anymore.
Let’s say Dubas managed to sign MM, Ekblad and Bennett in the summer(EK won’t be around along with Rust and Rakell).
How good is a team with Sid, MM, Ekblad and Bennett along with Malkin and Letang. They will probably make the playoffs but that’s not really a contender.

Curiosity is pushing me to watch an Oilers team lacking McDrai. Maybe the rest of that motley crew will rise to the occasion. Or it could just be ugly. That would work too.

No McDrai might be a blessing in disguise for the Oilers. Most of their secondary players have been trash this year, so it's a good time to step up. Plus some load management for their two stars. Might cost them home ice in the first round, but could be worth it if some of their players get rolling

And lol, Stars have a sneaky chance at the division. 6 points back with a game in hand + one remaining matchup vs the Jets
