Francouz going on LTIR and Cogliano being on IR to start the year would give the Avs tonnes of flexibility with the roster, so they wouldn't even need to waive MacDermid to make room for a waiver claim.

The roster below fits comfortably under the cap (with $202.5k to spare) and you wouldn't need to send anyone down until Cogliano or Francouz get activated again (in which case they could simply waive Hunt and/or Tufte, or MacDermid ideally).

Drouin - MacKinnon - Nichushkin
Lehkonen - RyJo - Rantanen
Wood - Colton - Tatar
Tufte - Olofsson - O'Connor
MacDermid
Allison

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
Girard - JJ
Hunt

Georgiev
Annunen

IR: Cogliano
LTIR: Francouz, Landeskog
But waiving MacDermid would be great.

I posted the Lafreniere/Yakupov tweet for jokes but then I listened to Friedman on 32 Thoughts and wow, it's even worse. Apparently Lafreniere just looked really bad in preseason and they're very concerned about him as a player. Not what you want to hear going into this fourth season.

Boy if they thought Quinn and Gallant were hard on young players, they haven't seen what Peter Laviolette can do. Laf'll be lucky if he makes it through the season without an extended look in the press box.

Was there really anyone out there cautioning against taking Lafreniere 1OA or even really cautioning against taking him high up?

I thought it was pretty much a consensus him then Byfield. I'll never understand the hesitation to take Stutzle in the top two. I think both NYR and LAK would probably like a mulligan on the 2020 draft.

IMO he's done in NY. They gotta trade him...the faster the better both for the team and the player.

The good news is the people that drafted him are all gone so no emotional attachment to that pick.

Laf was the concensus 1st OA pick. Kid was named CHL player of the year for the 2nd time at age 18, first one since Crosby to achieve that. Not only he was a concensus pick but was seen as a player NHL ready with a super high floor. He was almost a no risk pick, his chances of busting were very low.

#2 and #3 was a split between Byfield and Stutzle.

If the NHL was popular there would be hours of documentaries in the future asking how a first overall could be so.... unremarkable.

IMO the answer is he peaked way early. His all around skills were enough to be the best player in junior but he plateaued while the others didn't.

If you have NHL 3rd liner skills at age 16-17 you're going to dominate junior.

He was cooked a while ago. Only a matter of time with Kaako too.

I think there's a decent NHLer in there somewhere but not a star.

Don't know if I've ever seen linesmen move as fast as they did to jump in after Crosby dropped the gloves.

Crosby showed more concern and heart than any of the Avs last night after Bo took a much worse hit.
Did he show concern and heart or was he just not smart? I think it’s both. Would you want MacK to stick up for Bo, fight and break his hand before the season even started?

Do I want him to break his hand? No of course not. I wouldn't mind if he stood up for his teammate though. He and Landy have both done it in the past and Vegas was playing like pissy teenagers.

Not in a meaningless preseason game. MacK and Landy have done it in regular season games. I wouldn’t even have played the regulars yesterday against Vegas even if it was a TNT game. I would have given bunch of AHLers another game and had them beat up Vegas and their regulars

I didn't see the hit on Byram but usually no one comes to your defense for 3 reasons:

1. The guys on the ice are cowards (not the case we've seen ours fight)
2. The guy that got hit put himself in a vulnerable position and is more or less deserving
3. The teammates don't like the guy that got hit enough to hurt themselves

I can definitely see 2 and 3 being the reason.

It not a meaningless game if they knock out one of our regulars for the season. Then it has a ton of f***ing meaning.

If I were a Sabres fan I'd be very concerned with Devon Levi's preseason performances.

Avs need to stop being on the receiving end when they play Vegas. Kolesar did the same thing to Byram. They need to start being the aggressor against that team or Avs probably won’t beat them in a 7 game playoff series if they play each other. Guys like Wood, Manson or MacDermid if in line up need to start taking runs at their top players like they do to Avs

People think that the bo hit deserved a fight? It was a completely legal and perfectly fine hit. Just because your guy got hit doesn't make it a bad hit. Everyone on the team probably saw it for the hockey play it was. No fighting necessary. Bo has to do better and honestly probably needed a vet to get at him over trying to stick handle behind his own net and getting into a bad position. "Bo what the f*** are you doing? Get the puck up and out you raasclart."

You don’t think anyone on that teams sees a mouthy cocky young kid that hasn’t proven shit?

Not any more than they disliked Naz. Bo's teammates always love him. He's that cocky but lovable goofball.

He also played 4 rounds in the playoffs to help them win the Cup, including playing very well in the finals. That's not unproven.
