Kings-AV's was quite a game. Next level better than the pretenders Nucks vs Flames last night.

AV's tired so Kings speed bagged them all game and took over with complete domination in 3rd.

Kings a scary bunch. Not only did they add a power forward in PLD they added a better one in Quinton Byfield, having his coming out party, who is a monster player at age 21 that could dominate for the next decade. The Byfield story this season probably the biggest and was again in this game. So hard to play against and strong on the puck in traffic areas.

Kings are textbook running youth. Putting Byfield with Kopitar and Kempe. He's caught up now. This is a top scoring line but could be the best 200ft line in the league.

I feared the Kings were getting incrementally better every year. Everytime they make a trade im pissed off cause they got rid of this or that guy that the Oilers dominated and made struggle in those playoffs. Blake is seeing clearly what he has in the playoffs, and gradually and continually getting rid of all the weak links.

If Foegele was a King and Blake saw him throw up nothings he’d be gone. If Yamo was a King and he saw him get erased in the playoffs with physicality he’d be gone. He definitely wouldn’t have given Pool two cracks at failing in the playoffs. Don’t think he’d have kept Derek Ryan around either.

I took a wager that Skinner turns things around and repeats last season. What are my chances?
I'm down with him repeating last years regular season. But I hope he is nothing like he was in last years playoffs though.

Nothing wrong with Derek Ryan. One of our better playoff performers, given the role he has.

I like Ryan. Smart and hard working, a testament to why he’s still in the League. And at this price point he’s worth what he brings and I really shouldn’t complain.

But Im just seeing too much struggle moments in his game, I can’t cite a specific play where it’s hurt us though, but im feeling it will eventually get to that point whether he just can’t suit up due to injury or fatigue, or he gets crushed in a game giving the other team life. I like him, but I’d like an upgrade there. Someone younger, someone stronger. A Lafferty type would fit the bill but Holland can’t negotiate a deal better than a measly 5th.

If Foegele and McLeod (and a few others) played as smartly and consistently as Derek Ryan, the team would be so much better, and he would also look even better.

Why wouldn’t a GM keep a decent NHL player that can be buried and called up any time they want?

I've noticed that Ryan is a slow starter almost every year (like pretty much the whole damn team).

It's almost an annual thing for me to want to ship him out in November, but by the end of the playoffs I want him around. He was a bright spot in the playoffs last year among a bottom 6 that didn't do a lot.

I guess the contract makes it like a zero risk, so why not. But when you are trying to win a Cup you just want the best roster out there that you think can get the gruelling job done. I fear Ryan won’t be able to get the job done for much longer, I’m seeing signs personally anyways.

Meh, they have a Derek Ryan in Trevor Lewis in their lineup.

Meanwhile Arizona is just pumping the caps. Getting Seattle (from last year) vibes from them. Makes Oilers chance of making playoffs harder.

Arizona does not seem like a bad team this year. Ingram was 1st star of the week too.

5-0 after 1. Wow

Well good news for the Oilers is that Seattle seems broken. Hopefully the Blues lose as well.

And Josh Andersons first goal. Stauffer just climaxed.

Now consider that all of Moore, Lizotte, and the traded Iafallo were undrafted players. Whens the last time we found something laying around like that undrafted? We waste first round picks on guys like Yams. All the above are better and were available. Guys just waiting for somebody to notice. Moore has 12 goals. Iafallo was a part in the PLD trade. Lizotte is a better player than most of what we have in bottomsix.

Kings don't have a bunch of do nothing players. Closest to that is Grundstrom and Kaliyev imo but the latter may turn into something.

Typical Dallas. Down 3-0 to Tampa in the 3rd after kicking the sh** out of them last game loll
For reasons like this its hard to take the NHL level of consistent competition seriously. Too many games and teams decide which nights they will bring it. Would rather go back to 50, or even 68 games in a season but that never happens. Beat a team 8-1 one night and get stomped by them two days later. Its hard to find any meaning in that.

Not watching but is this Arizona being that good or the Caps pumping out yet another don't give a shit game?

Lots of Outliers going on in Yotes lineup. Hands up if you even knew who M Carcone was before he had 12 goals this year so far in a 1/4 of the season. WTF is this a found out of nowhere Rocket Richard? lol The guy is 27, has 17goals his whole NHL career, and of course he has a dozen already this year and scored tonight. Player is undrafted. Hockey is sometimes the most random of sports.

I don’t watch Arizona (who does) but I think their coach has the players working hard. But seems to me they have a high shooting percentage combined with other teams not really getting up for them. No rivalry or hostility. Teams are probably more concerned about getting a golf game in when they go there.

Kraken lose again so thats good. Thats always good. Kraken falling right out of things. Probably go to 2nd last place in division this season. Again not sure what the plan at all there is. Precious little talent, really the opposite of the Vegas Golden Knight model based on size and physicality. Seattle figured they would win with speed. How's that going?

Gotta be a downer as well playing in a highschool arena. Its probably a joke for visiting teams and " lets by a couple keggers" stop on the NHL calendar.

This is true. Would not happen b/c of gate revenue, but more teams would be "on" with fewer games.

Hand up. I suggested him as a possible off-season target for the Oilers after watching the World Championships. He was the guy who sparked Canada back into that tournament. No quit whatsoever in that player and a nice hard quick shot. He was scoring big goals while guys like Toffoli couldn’t get anything accomplished. Unfortunately few people here bothered to watch that tourney.

Carcone has had like five or six full seasons in the AHL. And scored very well. I’m surprised he’s doing as well as he is, but not at all surprised to see him having success. He just needed the chance to play with a some skill.

You wouldn’t like him though … he’s only 5’9’’.
