He's essentially saying "I could've dragged this thing out and dicked around in hopes of a better deal emerging down the road, but this was a good, fair offer so we took it."

No guarantee the Wild do better than this closer to the draft. Seemed to be a good fit between the Kings and Wild, with LA offering that 1st round pick and a position of need for Minnesota in RD. Kings could've gone in another direction if Wild dragged this out and the deal could've gotten worse.

Yeah, it’s a bunch of self aggrandizing horseshit. “Oh look at me, I’m so fair, I’m such a straight shooter.”

Why would the value of the player change between now and the draft? Only a handful of teams could fit Fiala’s projected salary, Guerin got the best offer he could from those teams and took it.

What picks? It would be dumb to trade next years 1st and every other pick is worse than their 1st.

Holtz a winger and they need RHD way more. And RHD is more rare and more valuable. If Shero didn’t trade away every 2nd we ever had and we drafted some, maybe we could have had some to offer.

The Kings collected assets and then drafted a ton of centers and RHD to set themselves up in the position they’re in now, a team with a ton of high end, extra tradable assets. We didn’t effort to do that.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Either you do a full rebuild or you half ass it while lucking into some lottery picks.

Weird how I keep hearing that all those 2nds didn’t matter, and oh by the way if we hung onto our 2020 2nd instead of trading it for Subban, we could have drafted Faber ourselves.

I supported the trade at the time, but in hindsight it was a terrible deal, and management needs to face that fact lest they blow another massive hole in their foot with a JT Miller trade.

Brooklyn via NJ, like the Nets
The only thing that upsets me about the Fiala trade is that the Kings got a significantly better deal than what Guerin wanted from us, which was supposedly the 2OA and a top prospect that's probably better than Faber. We'll get someone that hopefully isn't Miller, as well as a goaltender. Hopefully Hague too.

Who said Guerin wanted both Holtz and 2OA? That would have been outrageous. Holtz and a 2023 lottery protected 1st would have been more realistic.

How could you possibly believe that Minnesota wanted the 2nd overall pick in a deal for Fiala? Are they throwing in Wallstedt too?

Well apparently he was only signing with one team so I’d yeah I’d hope we weren’t all that involved lol

I don't believe this either, this is Russo carrying Guerin's water. It might be true but there's no reason to believe it is.

Joining Hynes in Nashville would have been the safest bet, but I guess they have no openings on their staff right now.

I would also bet Steve Spott is joining DeBoer there, if he hasn't already and I just didn't hear about it yet. He follows everywhere from the their days in the junior to the NHL at this point. He wasn't with him in Florida or here, because he took over as his head coach in Kitchener when Florida hired him to be an NHL head coach and then Spott eventually got hired by the Marlies to the be the head coach and then an assistant with Toronto, before joining DeBoer when he got hired in San Jose and they've been back together ever since.

I like Ilya but someone is gonna pay him something stupid.

You trolled me on this one when I saw the name Ilya.

It takes a second for the tweet to load up and all I said was Ilya and was thinking ''Oh no, don't tell me this washed up cripple is trying to make YET ANOTHER comeback to the NHL. Will he ever go away for good? He's 39 and didn't even play pro hockey at all anywhere this last year''.

Tampa dumping McD was inevitable
agree. who takes him, though, and at what cost?

He's signed for four more years (his age 33 - 36 seasons) at a $6.75 cap hit. He gets paid basically that amount. And he has an NTC (which, I think doesn't go away even if McDonagh agrees to a trade). Given that McD controls where he'll go, it's not even clear a traditional dumping ground like AZ is possible.

It feels to me like Tampa needs to retain in order to make a move happen, and even then it seems pretty iffy.
