In 20 years the players will all be rovers, or it will look like basketball basically with guards/defensemen heavily involved in offense.
Soccer and hockey both moving towards less players that are one dimensional and more players that do it all.

Hockey has already shifted towards 4 players in the attack at a rate that would not have been acceptable 15-20 years ago. We will still call people forwards and defenseman but their differences on the ice will get blurrier and blurrier.

I feel like the Wings from 2016 to 2019 were basically like us in the last Lou years. The GM wouldn't rebuild, but they were also not anywhere near good enough to compete.

I think the biggest difference is also that Ken Holland signed A LOT of bad contracts there. So Yzerman took over a team that had more bad contracts than the team Shero took over from Lou.

I've always said that about Lou, that while he signed many bad contracts throughout the years, there was really none that we were left with by the time he left. The Schneider contract became bad 2-3 years later and the Cammalleri contract became bad a year or so later, the Zajac contract wasn't great (but it really wasn't bad either), but I don't think there were really any bad contracts. There were a couple of guys still serving out the final year of the deals they already had. Or were bought out from them. The Zubrus contract was one of them, but it only had a year left and since the 35+ rule still existed at the time, we just had his entire cap hit for the year he didn't play here and there was nothing left of it after that year.

Zubrus getting a 3 year deal was highly questionable to me at the time and he became unplayable, but there was only a year left when Lou was ousted.

I think Cammalleri was the only particularly not great one that wasn't set to expire by the next year, and at the time Lou was last here, Cammalleri was still a pretty good player. He just had too much term left and was already 33 years old.

Who cares if we had a lot of bad contracts at the start of the rebuild or not. It wouldn’t have affected our place in the standings one bit. The simple fact that he even gave out all those contracts that you mentioned plus the clowe joke and brunner just proves the guy was toast.

If the Athletic can't survive it's basically hobbyists and PR representatives doing all the sports reporting. Or ESPN+'s PR representatives doing some reporting too, as an add on for a subscription to their service.
Just face it we are fans of the smallest fan base of the local sports group which is part of the smallest league which is playing in the most densely populated sports area in the world. Print is dead the days of tg and chere covering the games are long over it’s just the way it is. I’m thankful that a place like this exists otherwise man it’s tough being a hockey fan around here.

Five man units has been a staple of Finland's system for over 20 years now; with interchangeable roles.

Brunner? I’m pretty sure he was only on a two year deal and was only getting paid like $2.5 million a year. He was also one of the more younger players on a really old team. Yeah, he sucked, but it wasn’t a bad signing and his term was short.

Clowe went exactly how we predicted after all his concussions going back before he got here. Ended up missing a ton of time his first year here and then made it like a month into the next season before never playing again and going on LTIR for the rest of the contract. We figured early on he’d end up on LTIR. And he was also a much safer bet at the time to be an LTIR guy than Clarkson, despite the fact that Clarkson would join him in LTIREment not too long after. And he was also a much better player than Clarkson.

He was basically our Clarkson replacement.

That guy's article labeled her a diversity beacon? Oh lord.

It wouldn't shock me if her departure has more to do with being against what is coming out on Aquilini (and rightfully so, she should feel free to leave that organization if she doesn't want to deal with someone of that nature) but she certainly seems to make waves wherever she ends up for lack of a better term.

Never forget the Luke Hughes comments. I hope Luke has "character recon" tatooed on his arm somewhere.

If the people responsible for modern television have taught me one thing, you can be as diverse as humanly possible and still be a spoiled rotten rich brat. That's exactly what Rachel is. I wouldn't be surprised if she spoke out against ownership (with plenty of reason to do so) and got canned for that. But let's not make her out to be a selfless martyr or anything.

It wouldn't shock me if she publicly frames it that way, and maybe she said something re: Aquilini that was the straw that broke the camel's back, but I'd also guess that wasn't the whole story.

Confirmed. Given what’s going on in Vancouver, I think it’s safe to say Rachel wasn’t the bigger asshole, but she’s still wildly unprofessional and has no business being in an NHL front office in spite of her qualifications. Maybe she can get a TV gig doing analytics and snark.

some youngin who was hired and then let go by our team, who overinflated her qualifications

Has anyone seen how future 50 goal scorer Pavel Zacha looks in Boston’s camp?
he hasn't played yet - idk whats going on in boston, but their lineups the last 2 games are weird

Sheesh, here it is again in all its "glory".

Cringeworthy still, probably even more so.

I’m actually not in Fort Myers, that’s about 150 miles from me. It may be a little bit closer than that in actual land miles and not road miles.

I actually did alright. It’s still a bit gusty out there and I got a pretty good amount of rain here. It was supposed to be quite a bit worse for me. I did lose power, but I have a generator which was finally put to good use and definitely worth the money I had spent on it years ago. I knew when I moved here that it would be a smart buy and something I would eventually need one day.

Power is back on though, but it’s flickered a few times over the hours since it came back on. It’s all ready to go back on as soon as I potentially lose power again.

It is a nasty storm, I’m still getting a ton of nasty gusts as I type this and hearing all kinds of shit outside. It was worse earlier though. The rain looks to be over for me, but it feels like I’ll be getting wind and gusts probably well after the sun comes up.

Hoping to see an update from @Ripshot 43 soon.
Bleed, we got ******. I’ve been here 23 years since moving from Jersey. I’m literally using the Internet for the first time in 2 or 3 days only because I’m on a bus moving being moved from one shelter to another. All the forecasts had it hitting Tampa until it was too late for us to move and normally we are inland enough that the wind goes down enough. It’s a disaster zone… we asked to be rescued by the National Guard when we woke up and there was a literal river flowing on all sides of our house. I had 2 kids, a 91 year old great grandmother and 2 dogs to transport along with the rest of my family. I probably won’t be able to even get close to my house till the after weekend, maybe later into next week. Cars and house potentially at a total loss. As much as it’s a knightmare, My family is safe and that’s all that matters.

Ment to say it’s been 23 years and I’ve never seen it 1/4 as bad and we’ve been through some shit.
