Theres no point in playing cause according to the media, the powerhouse known as the Ottawa Senators are the greatest team in NHL history. Led by 34 year old Claude Giroux and Stützle's last third.
And DeBrincat

I do think they’re getting a little overhyped, but if they do get into playoff contention with a still young team for the most part then I don’t want to hear about how rebuilds need ten years ever again.

A fun thread to watch:

Rachel is a spoiled rich brat and an extremely online loudmouth with no shred of professionalism to speak of. She never should have been hired by another team in the first place. The fact that she constantly sniped at us after leaving the organization was a tell.

Not sure I want to start this debate again...but I initially thought they rebuilt quicker than most cause they had a lot of talent that they didn't / couldn't pay they could move. They missed out on the Stone trade but the Karlsson trade was an absolute home run. But then I looked closer:

It's basically ALL the Karlsson trade that got them Norris and Stutzle. They missed with Stone, and they bungled the Duchene/Zibenajad trades. They really just got lucky as hell. Possibly deserve credit for being aggressive on DeBrincat too.

Sens traded their top players and got great returns though. Our starting point of rebuild was much different than teams usually have. I think Penguins are gonna have a "10 year rebuild" once their core is gone. They have absolutely nothing due to being competitive for so long especially if the core 3 will never be traded. Bruins, Caps etc. we'll see.

Nobody has started from as far behind as the Devils did except for expansion teams. You continue to fail to acknowledge this fact.

Like us, I’m also not a believer in Ottawa’s goaltending for me to really be a believer that they’ll do much damage.

They’re made up of Anton Forsberg, who is turning 30 years old in November and has played games in the league for the last 8 years, but couldn’t crack the league full time/stay in the league until just last year. Even they got him off waivers the year before. And they signed him for 3 years based off of last season. It’s almost like Wedgewood having a season like Forsberg did last year (he wasn’t quite as good) and getting a 3 year deal out of it.

And then you got Cam Talbot, who has been a pretty poor goalie based on his goals saved above expected and appears to have been propped up a little bit playing behind Minnesota. He likely wont have that benefit playing behind Ottawa. And he turns 36 years old before this year ends.

I’m no more of a believer in their goaltending than I am ours. And there’s not many teams that I’d definitely rank below us in terms of goaltending coming into this season.

Cuts keep cutting at The Athletic.

Devils (along with several other teams) already lost their beat reporter, the site now has obnoxiously large ads and they're still apparently cutting back on staff:

I'm piggybacking off of my cousin's subscription. If I wasn't, I'd have gotten rid of it already. Someone in the comments of the Predators' season preview grumbled that the last article about that team (before the preview column) was a month ago, and that was some blurb about them signing Niedereiter. I've been seeing a lot of that recently.

As much as I enjoyed the "32 emo/punk songs for every NHL team" column recently... why is that content behind a paywall?

What? If you go back a few years, everyone felt that the Devils were in a much better position than the Red Wings. The Red Wings have sold off basically no one. You can claim that the Red Wings had Larkin, but they also had to deal with no cap flexibility and terrible long term contracts. And, the highest the Red Wings have drafted is #4OA (once). They whiffed on one of their #6OA (Zadina) and had a terrible GM (Holland).

They haven't proven anything yet, but they most certainly were at least in the same spot as the Devils (I think materially worse). They are generally predicted to be on par with the Devils this year.

It's ok to acknowledge that Devils management has not done a good job with this rebuild. That's historical - it doesn't affect how the team will do this year. And you won't hurt anyone's feelings on this board.

My subscription is up in February - I'll wait until then to cancel as they'll often offer discounts to keep you (I'm paying $1 per month now from doing that). Otherwise, it's just not worth it at all. Almost 3 months since a Devils-specific article that was not part of a league-wide series or a basic report of a free agent signing or trade. They've just completely given up on covering this team or appealing to Devils fans.

just because a team has been really good for a long time doesn't mean they should automatically be in store for a 10 year rebuild. the problem is gms scouts development all get lazy for lack of a better word they aren't held accountable. thats why imo gm coach shouldn't have long shelf time. that doesn't mean they should be changed out every couple years but there is a fine balance. lou imo should've been let go or promoted or whatever from the day to day looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong before he actually was. speaking of which i actually saw uncle louis at the islander game he was on a cell phone i was surprised he knew how to use it.
