As a follow-up to this article, The Athletic released a tier breakdown by team - essentially giving weighted points for each player on the list based on which tier they fell into.

View attachment 585067

Colorado was the only team to make it into the "Favorite" group with 20+ points, while Tampa Bay, Toronto, Calgary and Florida represent "The Contenders" group with 15-20 points.

Tier 3 is "Playoff Teams", which includes: Boston, Rangers, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, Carolina, St. Louis, Vegas, Dallas, Minnesota, New Jersey

The caveat here is that this exercise is just looking at top players and does not include goaltending, but it's interesting nonetheless.

New Jersey is a shocking inclusion here, just barely making the cut-off. Having four players make the list is a big help and though none were featured in the first two tiers, Jack Hughes (3A) and Dougie Hamilton (3C) help push the Devils into a tier with some solid playoff teams. They may surprise.
Listen to NHL Network on Sirius a lot. Love the coverage and 24/7 NHL talk but what gets me is that they seem to have 15 teams in the playoffs in the East.

Flyers and Islanders will bounce back, Columbus got better, Ottawa essentially already won the cup, Montreal made huge strides, Detroit is on the edge of greatness again, Buffalo is going to have a great season.

NJ? Meh, they might be a little better. 8th in the Metro!

Not that I shouldn’t expect it or even care about it but I kinda do.

Can’t wait to see how this season plays out.

Lol if the devils finish 8th in the metro year 10 of a rebuild and nicos what 6th year jacks 4th lol woof. Looking at that lineup though I can see it being a long year esp if goaltending doesn’t show up

I had to look up the last time Jason Demers played in the NHL.

I thought it was probably the 19-20 season, but it was apparently in the 20-21 season. He played 5 games in the KHL last year and then 4 playoff games.

And I also thought Demers was definitely 2 years older than he is. He just turned 34 this summer, thought he was definitely 36, turning 37 this coming season. I thought for sure he was a 1986 birth and not a 1988 birth.

I'll always associate him with the Sharks, but he hasn't been there in 8 years now.

If the Flyers get Bedard I'm gonna be so pissed. Although it might be fun to watch them fail to win with him, just like it's been with Edmonton and their superstars.
