I think zegras goes 7.5+ and terry goes 7.5- personally. I think zegras will be paid more, younger, better position, close stat wise with more room to grow. Not to mention he’s his own brand for the team…. He’s going to top jersey sales, and put fans in the seats.

Maybe there’s a world where they sign matching deals .

Respectfully disagree. Terry is the only true top line forward on the entire roster and has spent the last two seasons of his breakout playing well-below market value and will want to recoup some of that value. I think he’s more likely to commit to the full 8 years, but I think it’s costing somewhere in the neighborhood of $8-9 million annually

If I was Terry and the Ducks offered me less than Zegras I'd literally laugh and leave asap. He should be our next captain. Terry carrying the team single handily some nights.... and that's with everyone knowing how big of a Z fan I am. Playing on this team is an absolute drag right now I'm sure although they've won some close ones lately. I don't see that lasting long. Terry injury(s) and how horrible the team is kinda worked out in the Ducks favor though, same with Zegras. Terry would easily be a PPG player on a line with actual NHL top line talent at this point IMO.

McDavid is out scoring the next closest guy by like 20 points.

And he’ll be at 1000 points well before his 28th birthday. That’s ridiculous. 2500 points seems within reach

Anyone catch the all important Dustin Brown statue ceremony?

This seems optimistic. Gretzky had 1,520 points in his first 8 seasons and finished with 2,857. McDavid has 794 + whatever he manages in the next 29 games. 2,100 is probably reasonable, and still comfortably good for #2.

Gretzky didn’t end his career well compared to many superstars. And only played til 38.he also wasn’t in the NHL as young as McDavid was.

900 goals seemed unlikely for Ovechkin 6-7 years ago.

The bottom line is players are aging better than they did 30 years ago

Look at LeBron

Gretzky was 19 his first NHL season, and scored 137 points. McDavid’s 18 and 19 year old season totaled 148 points.

Take out his 38 year old 60 point season, and the 3 prior years he was 5th in points, but those point totals went 346 (Jagr), 303 (Selanne), 296 (Francis), 293 (Forsberg), Gretzky (289). He ended just fine. Even with the last season he was 7th in scoring for that span.

McDavid will need to average 142 points EVERY season for the next 12 years to get to 2,500. His career high so far is 123. His game is based on his speed, and that’s not going to last until he’s 40.

Who says he retires at 38 though? I see him playing until 41-42. He needs to average about 120 per year in that case which is very doable. He’s going to average 145-150 the next 5 and then there will be some decline to the 110 point range in his mid 30s

That was my point about his speed, I don’t think that’ll last, and I think his point totals will come down. I also think he’s not making his 40’s, he’s not built for taking contact like Ovechkin is, and when he’s slower the physical contact will carry a heavier penalty. Not that I’m wishing for that.

I said I think he could easily be #2 in career points, it’s not like I’m saying he sucks though.

I would love for this to happen. As much as I love Gretzky I don't want his records to stand forever.
