You know its going to be someone like Montreal that wins the Connor Bedard franchise player sweepstakes derby and then we as Leaf fans are going to have to fear the Habs ascending to the top again.
My guess would be Chicago.
It’s funny how Edmonton was gifted with Gretzky/Messier and picked a million times to get McDavid.
Pittsburgh from Lemieux/Jagr to Crosby/Malkin.
From Sakic/Forsberg to MacKinnon.
Chicago got 3 Cups from Toews/Kane and could be poised to hit the homerun again.
It seems the same franchises get those same franchise guys.

Montreal usually lucks out with superstar goalies, not the centers so much.

If he wants to play another year on a Spezza like contract, would you be interested?

It seems like a huge bargain, but much like Spezza, having a slow vet play down in the lineup isn't always great even if he's probably much better than his peers down there.
Yes, if Toews wants to sign a one year deal at $1M or less with the Leafs than you do it. If he is healthy enough to play regularly than you let him take 4th line C duties. If he isn't healthy enough he becomes LTIR.

You would think Chicago would bring him back if he'd take that.

You would, perhaps Chicago is looking for the "changing of the guard". They are going into full rebuild and they may want to part with anyone associated with the franchise during the time of what happened to Kyle Beech.

I could see him giving it one more go. Maybe Edmonton to play 3c behind McDavid for a year?

I'd bet the Jets to be the front runner. He's from there and the Jets are likely going to be still pretty solid next year. They might have a big hole if/when they trade Dubois (unless he changed his mind?)

Think it's a matter of Chicago wanting to turn the page/fully embrace the rebuild more than anything else (ex. money). It feels as though moving on could be better for Toews as well (potentially finishing his career on a team with aspirations to contend).

Would you rather play Boston in round 2, or a hostile “We don’t need you” for a solid 2-3 games? I don’t think Florida is beating Boston.

Also yes, we need to win round 1 but if….

So…
Boston vs Florida
Carolina vs NYI
NJD vs NYR
Toronto vs Tampa Bay.

In the East.

We ended up 4th in the East.

I don’t think Florida gives Boston too much of a problem, hopefully Tkachuk runs around and roughs them up a little.

So weird seeing Jaro Halak still backing up in New York after all these years. I wouldn't have figured he would outlast Carey Price as an active goalie in the NHL.
