i remember i similar banter after they drafted Galchenyuk then again after they drafted Sergachev and traded for drouin followed by all the pre season takes on Kotkaniemi before trading him and bottoming out again to draft slaf this year

He is obsessed with a RD who can play tough defensive minutes and not suck? Shocking.

At least he is not obsessed with a subpar defenseman who brings nothing else to the table besides laying out hits. Would much rather he be married to good defensemen than bad ones.

Let's not get carried away here, it's not as if Justin Holl is a top 4 dman, he's a 3rd pair guy same as Boosh on a true contender. Neither player move the needle and are appropriately slotted as a 6, it's not crazy that some would prefer a different profile to what we already know we have which has proven to not work. Yeah that's exactly what I want/said, exaggerate much? Nobody is saying physicality over everything, but this current team isn't good enough the way they are constructed. How many versions of the same old do people need to see?

And Lyubushkin had no business playing as high up in the lineup as he did with Rielly, that's on the coach.

I wanted Matthews to add some toughness and he has. He watches the playoffs and knows what it takes, whereas his GM probably doesn’t.

Lyubushkin is at least one full tier below Holl as a player. Arguably 2 depending on whether you want to be discrete with the rankings.

That is the problem. People think they are comparable players. They are not.

Now if you wanted to compare whether the Leafs should sign Mayfield or Holl as a UFA this summer, then you can make the argument you are suggesting. Holl has better numbers, but overall they are similar enough quality. Really good bottom pairing guys who can be cheap #4's with the right partner. Lyubushkin, on a contender, is a #7 who can be a #6 with the right partner.

The first 2 weeks to month of the season is always filled with some weird results. I don’t understand why so many people overreact to it so much.
And it happens on all sides.
