Wow guys! The cap could go up by a whole million dollars for next season!

That isn’t what it says……
It says more than a million. It was already scheduled to go up by 1 million next year. That tweet is referencing Betman saying the players debt could be paid off and the cap would no longer be artificially lowered and thus could go up by more than the scheduled amount. How much more isn’t referenced or implied. It could potentially go up by a significant amount.

NEW YORK (AP) — The NHL salary cap could get its first big increase since before the pandemic sooner than expected.

Commissioner Gary Bettman said there’s a chance players could be finished paying off what they owe owners from pandemic revenue losses as soon as this season, which would mean the cap going up $4 million or more next summer.

Initial projects were for another modest $1 million bump and a bigger increase in the summer of 2024, but there’s now more optimism about 2023 after Bettman said the league generated $5.4 billion in hockey-related revenue last season.

“Revenue’s pretty vibrant,” Bettman said Tuesday after a meeting of the NHL’s Board of Governors. “The business is good, and so things are looking possible for (players’ debt) being paid off this year. If we miss it, it’ll be close and it’ll be next year.”

The league and union agreed to keep the cap flat coming out of the pandemic and use escrow payments to make up for what players owed owners to split revenue 50/50. That meant the cap staying at $81.5 million for two seasons before going up to $82.5 million this year.

With new U.S. media rights deals and other revenue streams flowing, it could be over $86 million in the not-too-distant future.

I liked having Boosh on this team, and wanted him before we traded for him. He's a third pairing guy, is 5th in TOI for Buffalo, for $2.75 mil. That's too much for a bottom pairing guy IMO. Buffalo can afford it, and congrats on the contract, but that's beyond where I'd value him.

I would have kept him in the 1 million range but not at 2.75. We can easily find a physical 6/7 when needed.

Must be.

Boston lost to winless Ottawa, sky must be falling there too.
Weird comments. Tampa Bay has come off three straight finals appearances, they've literally played the most hockey of any team by far. Boston was also expected to be a wild card team and so was Ottawa so the Sens beating them isn't really some sort of shock.

Oilers lose to Sabres. The 2-2 Leafs start isn't that bad considering the East early on is all over the place. Losing to the Yotes hurts though

Buffalo is going to give this team all kinds of trouble this year. Hard working, physical, motivated, and skilled. Leafs will come in thinking it will be a cake walk when we face them based on reputation.

Now that it seems Muzzin is shelved for a potentially long time, Lyubushkin is looking even more like a missed opportunity.
