Tampa down 7-1 to Florida. The comments about our team would be something if we had a game like that.
Also cups doesn't make it acceptable. That is a terrible game and doesn't make it better no matter what history you have.
Surprised Vas is playing considering he was in the All-star game..

Generally players (goalies in particular) are allowed to ease back into play.

Igor Shesterkin not dressed for NYR, and goalie Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders also not playing tonight for example.

I wonder what excuses Jon Cooper will have tonight why the Lightning played a horrible game?

True, I would have expected at least Matthews to be ahead, but at the same time, Zack is only fourth in scoring on that team.

Who's fifth for Toronto, despite minimal PP time, and actually fourth at even strength?

A good grinder playing with elite linemates.
That's an good point. After our elite players, he was pretty much the highest scoring guy we had as well IIRC so yeah, that's not bad.

You speak of opportunity and did you know Marner has 6 PP goals and Nylander has 7 PP goals on the season but Zach Hyman has 13 PP goals which is the same as both Leaf top scoring players combined.

I asked this recently in this thread and the general answer was Zach would never get that pp time in Toronto because he isn't talented enough to play of the powerplay when here.
Seems pretty clear those guys were wrong, not much else to say to that.

And Nylander (758:56 - ES TOI) is only 3 Even Strength goals behind McDavid (864:09 - ES TOI).
Now that's the kind of stat I like. :)

Except when I think of the negotiations for Willie's next contract. After seeing what Horvat signed for, I'm frankly scared shitless. I said years ago that out of our big guns, Nylander is the most likely to leave and I still think that's true. Dubas promised he'd never trade him as long as he's the GM, too bad no reciprocal promises were made. I still hate that Dubas made that promise, I can only hope he's not serious about keeping it. I dunno though, something tells me Dubas takes the concept of loyalty too seriously and he would be loath to break his promise.

I'd be fine moving Knies in a package deal for a true power-forward with term.

Is Crouse really a power-forward? Maybe on his way, there is risk with him. Career high 20 goals and 34 points? Well, staying healthy is part of the requirement isn't it? Maybe you do Knies and a prospect. Coyotes are looking for marketing their team right? Born Oct 17 2002 -- Phoenix, AZ. That's worth more to a team that has to sell their game then some middling wannabee power-forward with a no real history of being the guy. Who ever take Crouse is taking risk. Just not sure you can rely on him. Also risk in getting a 6'3", 220 lbs. Hobey Baker candidate. There are good odds this could be a win-win trade, win-lose trade, lose-lose trade.

From the Coyotes take Bjugstad, same amount of time PK as Crouse for Kerfoot and a prospect that has a good chance to become a bottom 6 player. Kerfoot going out gives some cap space, and the prospect gives another contract spot.

Tampa plays San Jose tonight, so they went with Vasi against the tougher opponent

Great hit. I miss the Leafs having those type of players.
I was surprised when Leafs GM Burke drafted Morgan Rielly @ #5 for the Leafs and did not take the big bruising American Dam Jacob Trouba with the Leafs pick who went to Winnipeg at #9.

With all the talk of pugnacity and beligerence I thought for sure Trouba was becoming a Leaf.. Today he is the exact kind of Dman the Leafs are missing particulary with Jake Muzzin out.

Glad Burke took 44 because Trouba would have asked out of Canada and we'd have been hosed like the Jets were.

Glad he took Rielly as well but I doubt very much he'd have an issue playing here.
I'm sure I'm not remembering but who was the last Leaf to ask to leave?

Trouba wanted out in order to be closer to his GF who was studying in the States. I don't think it would have made any difference.
Could be. If he just hated Winnipeg I doubt he would come out and say it.

The most recent former Leafs player who requested a trade was Nikita Zaitsev.
