They made their choice. Hard to say if it would have been better or worse had they taken another path.
Agreed. What we do know is, thus far, the direction we took has not helped us in the post season. Hopefully that changes going forward, although I can't see us beating Boston or Tampa.

Fingers crossed we do though.

Carter Verhaeghe is doing alright these days. 35 points in 44 games. One of 5 players we gave up to get Michael Grabner, who played 80 games for us in 2015-16 and got 18 points that year. I bet Lou not happy about that trade on his record. Just goes to show that all GMs make mistakes.

Actually Lou gave up on him twice.. traded him to the Isles and then let him walk as a free agent once he became GM of the Isles

That move was always a head scratcher because the Leafs lacked organizational centre depth and Verhaeghe was coming off of a nice junior career. Barely gave him a chance with the Marlies.

Actually Verhaeghe would fit nicely with the Leafs right now as a need.

Yeah, he had just turned 20 too. Not like he was some old prospect struggling to make it. His professional level resume consisted of 2 end-of-season games in the AHL as an 18 year old, and we just dumped him for no value and no reason before even seeing what he was. Was always a baffling decision.

I'm sure they had their reasons. Mistakes can be made but we have to assume the decisions have thought behind them.

29. Hated to see a potential first NHL goal for Bobby McMann erased last week in Detroit on a kicked puck. Letter of the law was absolutely correct, but he wasn’t even trying to score. He was trying to send it to his stick, so he could shoot properly. Would have been an awesome moment for the 26-year-old, who finally cracked the NHL while his father tagged along on the dads’ road trip.

Possible solution: in 2016, the WHL eliminated “distinct kicking motion” from its rule book. As long as the puck was outside the crease, a score off a player’s skate became a goal. That eliminated the need for a referee and/or video-goal judge to decide. I like it. I’d like to see the NHL consider it.

Why would he throw himself under the bus like this? Are you telling me your life is pure angelic and everything you do and stand for in Philly is according to your religions strictest standards?

Why invite so much undue scrutiny to yourself your team and your organization?

It’s just a pride jersey for warmups!

Are all the the Flyers sponsors and affiliates in line with your religion or it’s okay because you benefiting from the monetary in flows so it’s ok?

You play for the logo in front of the jersey not the name in the back.

It’s interesting the hills people will die on… Philly is a tough market and they’re a losing team. He’s just put a target on his back. He’s free to believe what he wants, which I support, but the optics of the situation make it a bad call.

It also hurts his trade value too.
