McCann is shooting over 28% this season .. that's so absurd!

He did something similar last year and then it normalized a lot by the end of the year.

He will likely get over 30 goals, but considering the role he is in for the money he makes and that he is playing in the Western Conference, I am not sure that is necessarily anything spectacular.

We really should have received a king's ransom for Mrazek because he has been the ideal tank commander. If Chicago lands Bedard, they need to give us a future first :sarcasm:

4 goals on 5 shots :biglaugh:

I wanted to keep Mrazek. Figured he'd bounce back somewhat and it wasn't worth the cost to get rid of him.

... and that is why I am not a GM.

I see you are confusing regular season (projected) points with how good a team actually is when the games are important.

A fairly common mistake among some Leafs fans, encouraged by their management/ownership.
Hard to say Vegas was a bad team.

I see you are confusing winning a playoff series with how good a team actually is over a more representative sample. A fairly common mistake among some fans who cheer for actually mediocre teams that won a playoff series.

Except the funniest part is, in your haste to downplay the Leafs, you started out by dismissing the very thing you're saying is important. The only thing important to determining team quality is winning playoff series... and yet, you're dumping on Montreal, the team that won the 2nd most playoff series, and Vegas, the team that won the 3rd most playoff series?

A top tier team that loses their playoff series? Mediocre.
A team that won a playoff series? Mediocre.
A top tier team that won multiple playoff series? Mediocre.
A team that won more playoff series than everybody except the Cup winner? Mediocre.
And then if the Cup winner only beats mediocre teams, wouldn't that also make them mediocre?

So it seems that according to your logic, everybody is mediocre or worse.

I concur. Horrendous decisions acquiring either goalie.

Would you believe me if I told you there was once an organization that thought, not one, but both, should be on their roster at the same time?
Goalies more than any position, possibly simular to relievers in baseball seem to be a crapshoot.

One good year, followed by an ok year,, maybe throw in a poor year.

A lot depends on the team they are with, the style of play, nagging injuries.

Murray and Gustuvson who looked awful last year in Ottawa and both having pretty good years with new clubs.

Demko and Markstrom who havbe been good for a few years are both really struggling.

Outside Vasi and seemingly Sherk, I am not sure who I would bet on to string 3 or 4 years together being a top guy. Ott in Dallas maybe?

Yep. In fact, only 5 goalies have been in the top 50 GSAx in 2020/21, 2021/22, and now this season - Vasilevsky, Hellbuyck, Saros, Shesterkin, and Sorokin.
And all of those goalies play for the team that drafted them, and they were all drafted around a decade ago, and all except Vasilevsky in the 3rd round or later.

You mean before they were actually exposed as bad goalies? (.914, .905, .923) and (.924, .928, and .900)

Pepperidge Farm remembers context, too.

Interesting to see Yzerman started to get some heat from Wings fans, which is probably for the best, he's made a fair amount of questionable decisions since becoming GM but seem to be riding the reputation way from his work in Tampa for too long.

Not to say he's a bad GM, but he's made some strange moves over the past couple years
