Nick Ritchie has 8 goals in 17 games for the Coyotes, so almost a 40 goal pace since the trade. Gotta laugh sometimes at the lack of mental toughness of guys who put on a Leaf jersey.

It's the reason I wasn't pissed off at Marner for extracting the extra $$. This market, along with all the good stuff, is a pain in the ass. It's a real thing to contend with. If I was elite, I would demand an extra 2 mil "'cause Toronto". It's the media - absolutely horrendous. Now if you're a player like Ritchie you can't make any such demands but some of that pressure is still there. Ritchie is a stellar example of this. He was given the opportunity, it's not like MLSE doesn't take good care of its' athletes, or that Arizona would take better care of a player. He was given every opportunity here - couldn't cut it. No matter what he does in Arizona, I'll never have the feeling like we lost out on something, to me he was barely a Leaf and was never going to improve here.

Yup this market can be a pain in the ass but Tavares, Brodie, Kampf, Bunting, Kase, hit the ground running. Perhaps some of the blame should fall on Ritchie who pretty much was a no show.

I get what ur saying
We all here have a good grasp of the social media and media factor around the leafs

How exactly does the media affect the actual players to have this opinion?
I get the coaches may criticize players and such, management but r there players on this forum? Lol
What exactly is the “Toronto” factor that runs players away
Because Phil kessel was one of the most criticized players here and he kept scoring his entire time here which is exactly what he came here to do. I get we wanted more but that’s our fault, he did what he was good at and very well
I get radio guys feel leafs nation fury, jornalista do also but do the players?

Don’t look now but “huge f*** up” Mason Marchment has 5 points in his last 12 games and has generally been ragged on by Panther fans for his recent poor play.

It almost as if these boards overreacted to 12 points in 3 games.

To be fair though, Giroux stole his spot.
It's almost as if the absolutely ridiculous shooting percentage he had earlier in the season wasn't going to last.

I'm not a player so just have speculation and experience as a human to offer, I've never turned on a radio and heard people talking about me but if I were and I tuned in and heard Kypreos/Hayes/Noodles/O-Dog etc etc, coming after me day in and day out. And not even for the screw ups, but when you've done well they even find an angle - and then a lot of those same people can't kiss my ass enough whenever it suits them - I would find it unsettling and distracting. But I've never been a pro athlete or any sort of public figure

Marchment has 40 points in 44 games. Getting rid of him was a “huge f*** up” by Dubas, and I think it’s you who is overreacting to a small cold streak he appears to have snapped already.

Blah blah blah Dubas blah blah blah

He’s already showing signs of slowing down, it’ll be interesting what teams make the Clarkson mistake here. Talk to me again next year at the end of next year.

I’m not saying he’s not a useful depth piece, but people losing it when he was a PPG player was obviously an overreaction to his ridiculous 3 games.

No, I don't want to rehash that one. I'm happy with the way Marner has rebounded this year but I don't think there should be a premium for being a Leaf to handle the market and fanbase.

Guys like Ritchie just aren't gamers and need to hide somewhere they can collect a paycheque. That's not a place like Toronto or a place like Boston.

I think the 'intense' media coverage that players happen to face in Toronto is less of a "Toronto problem" and more of an individual player problem.

I find there to be a real disconnect between any athlete who is happy to make millions and have success in a sport that is consequential on the ice, but you also want total anonymity off the ice. One is related to the other.

We should feel better about it since he's slowed down? When should we expect Denis Malgin to equal his production?

I wonder why Philly didn't start Martin Jones last night. He is stopping everything tonight against the Rangers.

The point is it is clearly not as egregious of an error as some crusaded on here.

He likely is a physical depth winger who can provide some circumstantial offense but can’t be expected to produce on his own. Not the top line powerforward like some would’ve had you believe after his little hot streak.
