GDT: Around the League - 2021/22

The game is being caught from behind by mls and the other “big 4” are closing in on lapping them.
Same shit wrt different sets of rules for different months of the year. A 2 minute hooking call in a preseason game in Stayner for hometown hockey is a hooking call game 46 in January and it’s a hooking call in game 7 OT cup finals in June.

Beyond stupid.
Jay Beagle is about 2 years from being named to a NHL front office because of outstanding character and supreme hockey sense.

It is absolutely nuts and I don't know how Bettman gets so much praise. The NHL wasn't that far away in revenue from the NBA in the 80s/90s but now it's not even close. MLS will soon overtake the NHL and NASCAR is also huge. NHL is a dinosaur league with a gold mine full of talent that they do not give a shit about.

In Cricket, they started having leagues just 10-15 years ago with the biggest one being the Indian Premier League and guess what? They recently expanded from 8 to 10 teams and made 1.7 billion for those teams and their media rights will be up for sale for a minimum of 6 billion over 5 years and they play just 1.5 months every year.

Those other leagues even baseball do a good job of adapting rule changes to promote offence and excitement and know how to market their stars and personalities.
The nhl markets tradition and falls back on their boomer audience’s appreciation of “the good old days”

I mean he's not wrong. In a 5 nothing game what the F did the yotes think they will accomplish? If you can't keep up with the skill of the game then retire and go to beer league where players have similar skill level to you.

Maybe it'll sound a bit dinosaur-ish, but I think the ambient hostility in the game is what elevates the beauty and skill aspect. I'm all for Zegras pulling the Michigan but be prepared to stand up for yourself and your right to embarrass a knuckle dragger.

I'm glad Zegras is expressing himself like that, but as I also have said of knuckle draggers on Auston Matthews, don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and protect yourself in the moment. If they want to come at you high, get the stick way, way up. Don't wait for the Department of George Parros.

He did that, got suspended for 2 games and that might cost him the rocket & hart. Players shouldn’t have to police themselves. That’s why you pay to have 4 officials on the ice

He's old and slow and doesn't fit their run and gun high octane offense really. Odd price to pay for a player who only wanted Florida. I'm so glad Dubas didn't move that 1st rounder.

I don't mind Matthews taking a chunk out of Dahlin at all. Take a 2 game suspension in the short term but how many headaches are you saving when guys are now going to hesitate to take a run at Matthews knowing he could snap? I'd rather my guy be a snap show and protect himself like a Mark Messier than wait for player safety to come to the rescue a la Mario Lemieux and his early retirement.

Maybe I'm confused but didn't Florida do something similar with Yandle last year? Something tells me maybe Yandle is a problem. But yeah, bush league of the Flyers. Dress 7D or play him as a forward or something? I get the vibe it's personal.
 
Oh God New Jersey is going to blow it. Suppose it’s not that much of a surprise. Even with a big lead they’ve still got crap goaltending and are generally awful.
