Nice seeing an organization prioritize team over individual accomplishment. I can only imagine the outrage if something like this happened in Toronto. It is not "mean" to do something like this. If your organization is about what is best for team, you do these kinds of things. Prioritizing individuals over team is the wrong way to go about things.

And, yes, I say this in reference to carrying Wayne Simmonds and Jason Spezza.

Yandle was 11 games short of 1000.

Disagree entirely.

This is complete garbage time for the Flyers with nothing on the line. Show some respect to your vets

Terrible decision. They aren't playing for a plolayoff spot. No real reason to do this. If you really wanted younger guys playing, you should have shelved Yandle months ago. No he's so close and you decide to scratch him? f***ing brutal.

Sit someone else for a younger player if that's even a thing.

I see Flyers fans are upset because of the dysfunction. Supposedly, Yandle was promised he'd be ushered to 1K, and now he's not.

That is an issue for sure. Making that promise to someone is ludicrous. You don't make promises like that. That is the real issue. Now, the Flyers have apparently broken it. That is not good for business. But, again, the issue is ever making it in the first place. You don't play dead weight for things that aren't about what is best for your team.

Those who think this means guys won't come to an organization over things like this...GOOD. You don't want guys who want to come to your organization because they want it made about them. You want guys who come in that want what is best for your team. That is somewhat subtle but so important. You want team-first people. Not guys hanging on at the end for personal glory. If those type of guys add nothing to your team, then you don't want them. We don't need a Spezza or Simmonds. Spezza was a very nice story when he first came here but that was a couple of years ago. He's a shell and so is Simmonds. An org about winning would never play these guys, at this point. This is go-time.

Glad Philly sat Yandle. I'm sure there are many Flyers fans thinking this means guys won't come to play for them now. Again, good, for them. You do not want guys chasing personal glory on your team. Personal glory and team are not compatible. Auston gets it. He's downplaying his personal accomplishment as fans and media play it up. He gets it. They don't.

This is league is so f***ed

Unbelievably stupid league, the NFL now looks nothing like it did in the 1970s they changed rules dramatically so that skill and exciting plays were allowed to flourish over the boring grinding offensive schemes that were prevalen. The NFL now dominates the North American sports landscape and is a world force despite not being widely played.
in their infinite wisdom hockeymen stick to the idiotic mentality that viewers are far more delighted with Jay Beagle wailing the tar out of a early 20s non fighter than seeing a cocky shit like Zegras score unbelievably skillful goals over and over. Or fans want to see Ben Chariotand Shea Weber deliver numbing crosschecks over and over, rather than skillful players skating passing and shooting, when the real manly playoffs roll around. Beyond stupid.
Jay Beagle is about 2 years from being named to a NHL front office because of outstanding character and supreme hockey sense.

Fair enough for the Flyers to act in the best interests of their team. I can't disagree with that being what should take precedence at the end of the day. Nevertheless, has all that much changed recently to end Yandle's streak (and he did at least have the opportunity to pass Jarvis) out of the blue like this?

Cross checking is apparently ok in this league, as long as it isn’t a Leaf doing it.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. While they actually had something to play for, they continued to play him non-stop despite the fact that he sucked. If they were going to take a stand for team over player, that would have been the time to do it. Now that they're eliminated, they're not only going to screw over their vet, but simultaneously screw up their own tank? I don't get what this accomplishes for them.

I was hoping the early start might F them up and indeed FLA is down 4-1 in the 2nd to NJ.

Hold on, NJ, HOLD ON.

Old man Giroux has some secondary assists as a Panther so far but from what I've seen hasn't actually been very good. Just got blown by for the shorty to give NJ the 5-2 lead.

Weegar and the Panthers makeshift top pairing get turned into mincemeat and it's 6-2.

Panthers haven't had any really bad stretches during the season and they have rookie coach. Interesting to see if they get into trouble late in the season how they react. It's hard to get trough full season without troubles and if those pop up in the playoffs those are hard correct without prior experience how people react, if everything isn't sunny and going as planned.

Though it's only one game, but this late in the season it isn't optimal to slump.

The loss of Ekblad doesn't get enough airtime imo. He is a top 5 D in the league... without him, I don't know how well the Panthers can hold up. Someone is going to have to step up big time for them.

Simmer and spezz looked effective Thursday together, even old man cliff had the wheels rolling. I think the difference between getting the most out of those guys and pandering to a chutz like Yandle who has no history with the club are very different. Cliff spezz and simmer can still contribute if not driven into the ground every day

Panthers laying a rotten egg right now in Newark. Trap game for them? Wish we weren't getting them in a b2b.
To be fair they’re in Buffalo tomorrow so it’ll be 3 in 4 with travel for them. We have the same 3 in 4 but we get them last.
