Who was expected to win, post-game with blog stats?

Curious minds would like to know.
Avalanche dominated in terms of the 'underlying' stats. Shot attempts, scoring chances, expected goals etc. Both in 5v5 and all situations.

I get what you're saying, but our PP has been dreadful in the last 3 playoffs and our bottom 6 has been completely dry.

Can't expect this roster, as built, to be a team known for locking down opponents in low scoring games.
I don't understand why we were so stubborn with it. We have so much skill that we should have different setups for different situations. It was pretty clear after two games that Tampa's PK had our number, even if we change sides of Marner and Matthews it makes a difference. Same going with Matthews and Nylander on the wings and put Marner behind the net and then you can switch it back.

Anyone else enjoying the irony of Lightning fans moaning about a phantom 5 on 3 call; when a large reason they cleared the Leafs were due to TWO phantom calls that rewarded them a 5 on 3?
I’m not surprised.

I’d venture to guess that the majority of observers realise the refs are making calls at at game speed and understand why they called penalties, and they place the blame on the players.

Interesting that 4 rounds in Colorado still has 32 less PIM than Toronto.....those big bad Leafs.
Hahahaha.....yup.

Not like there wasn't any blatant series fixing going on.

The only way any person couldn't see it is if their eyes are closed and their ears are plugged.

Oh yeah, I've kept hush about this on the mains until now that I see the Tampa fans whining about the bogus 5 on 3 causing a goal, I sure hope that goal is the difference maker in this series so Tampa can see that what goes around comes around and then they will be whining all summer long.

We have decent and Tampa's trap is godlike. Like they just concentrate on defending and frustrating opponent. I don't us playing that way every time, but it's good tool to have.

We cannot control referees but at least our play we can affect. Those numbers are troubling.

Tampa has the edge in the most important area really, which is one of the best playoff goalies of modern times.

5v5 defensive rankings over the last 3 playoffs between Toronto and Tampa:

Shots against/60:
Tampa: 2nd out of 25 playoff teams
Toronto: 4th out of 25 playoff teams

High Danger Chances against/60:
Tampa: 2nd out of 25 playoff teams
Toronto: 3rd out of 25 playoff teams

Expected Goals Against/60:
Tampa: 6th out of 25 playoff teams
Toronto: 2nd out of 25 playoff teams

Save%:
Tampa: 4th out of 25 playoff teams
Toronto: 10th out of 25 playoff teams

Goals Against/60:
Tampa: 2nd out of 25 playoff teams
Toronto: 9th out of 25 playoff teams

Add in the fact that Tampa has played against better QoC and it just shows how dominant Vasy has been in winning them series and cups while Toronto's keepers have basically been average considering the great D in front of them. There is no more valuable player on Tampa and if they win this year, it's going to be on his shoulders again. Toronto's shooters gave him all sort of problems though and it was a coin flip of a series that was decided by bounces/calls.

Reminds me of the movie when the guys say "We've tried nothing new and we're all out of answers" when it comes to this PP.

Your talent means nothing if you don't have a point shot. Anyone who watches the Leafs will just box out Matthews. Lets face it, Marner doesn't scare you with a shot and JT is front of the net

You need a hard shot from the point, a shot that other teams will respect. If I played against Reilly, I'll let him shoot all day and he won't.

There's your problem

Regular season, we get to play Ottawa, Montreal. You get to play backup goalies, players who are from AHL an rookies. In playoff, you get to play a team that made it and is good enough to be there. You play Vasi night in night out. Those teams will adjust
