What wrong with Trent Klatt? I could have said Randy Robitaille or Eric Bustmuffin if I wanted to be negative.

Perhaps I misinterpreted your meaning. There was nothing wrong with Trent Klatt. I thought you were comparing him to guys like Randy Robitaille or Erik Rasmussen.

Lol. I get that you think a guy like Klatt is fine, but a ton of fans wouldn’t. He’s just a better flavor of mediocre than the other guys IMO.

Hard-working mediocre, and if memory serves put up decent numbers. Didn't he get salty about the CBA and said he'd rather retire than play under it?

Edit :He scored the 3rd most points on the team that year.

At least Anson Carter managed a record label while he was with LA. Ronning was far less productive after getting concussed right away and sitting out games sporadically.

Trent Klatt was cool. The problem with Trent Klatt is if he is treated as a big off-season addition.

Of course, that team was a mess with Cechmanek/Huet in net, Palffy getting hurt and the "When are Deadmarsh and Allison coming back" questions. The answer to that question was, of course, never.

That team still added Carter and was in the playoff hunt. Then the infamous 11 losses in a row to end the year on top of a 14 game winless streak that spanned nearly an entire month between December and January.

The Palffy injury was devastating. He was easily one of the best players in the league and was carrying this team. Todd Simpson will always be a piece of garbage.

What made the Ronning trade even worse, was Kharlati <sic?> playing really well for Nashville after the trade. IIRC he had a major scandal that following summer and never played another minute in the NHL, but man did that trade sting at the time.

Regarding Carter, from the "it's funny what sticks with you department:" I remember Darryl Evans interviewed Carter on the radio pre-game show in 2005, when Columbus was in town. Evans went straight at Carter, and asked <grossly paraphrased>, "Your stint here in LA in 2004 was a disaster - what happened?" Carter admitted that he sucked as a King, but then stated that, at that time, he had two completely destroyed shoulders, and that he actually failed his physical with the Kings, but then Dave Taylor himself "overrode" the findings and pushed the trade through. I always have felt that, if what Carter said was true, most of the venom from that trade was directed at the wrong person (as an aside: IIRC Jared Aulin didn't do much of anything noteworthy at the NHL-level anyway).

I was watching that OT and that was sweet. He's really fitting in well there.

Despite the bad penalty he took earlier in the game he looked like one of Boston’s best forward with grit to his game.

He’s def one to watch in the post season since it looks like he has a chip on his shoulder lately.

Friedman's 31 thoughts, into is all on Eichel and the growing rift between him and the Sabres

31 Thoughts: What caused the 'disconnect' between Eichel, Sabres

According to multiple sources, Eichel had a contentious exit interview with the organization. No one is commenting, but it’s believed he is exploring — on the advice of his medical team — an artificial disc replacement in his neck.

The Sabres and their captain are believed to have agreed to a month-long “pause” to see how Eichel reacted to rest. The end of that period is approaching, and, from what I understand, he still wants the surgery. The Sabres aren’t thrilled with the idea, and have not indicated they will approve.

This really is bad..

2. Eichel overshadowed everything else from Buffalo, but two other year-end media goodbyes were notable.
Sam Reinhart didn’t reveal much and looked like he’d rather be eating lit cigarettes. Asked if he wanted to stay, he replied, “I don’t really have much to say right now. Gonna take some time, that stuff’s going to get figured out when the time comes.”

Rasmus Ristolainen said that if Adams traded him, “I’m fine with that.”
That’s really, really bad. Reinhart was 10th in the league with 25 goals. Ristolainen had every excuse to bail on the year after a rough case of COVID. Both of them played hard, even when there was no playoff spot to play for. Reinhart’s been there six years, Ristolainen eight. Those are two guys the Sabres invested in, and, one year from unrestricted free agency, both can’t wait to leave.

Basically everyone outside of Cozens has had enough, heh.

They'd be smart to basically build around Cozens and Dahlin at this point.
